Is celebrating the big brain on John played out?
It’s not about him having a big brain, it’s about him being where he is in his profession less than two years after receiving his doctorate. It’s not about him being smart, it’s about his accomplishments, his reputation in his field. The guy just keeps on impressing. And don’t worry, as Art said, it’s a three-year appointment and, besides, the next Fields Medals won’t be awarded until 2026, so this will likely be the last Urschel thread for awhile.

The purpose of the Society is to give scholars at an early stage of their scholarly careers an opportunity to pursue their studies in any department of the University, free from formal requirements. They must be persons of exceptional ability, originality, and resourcefulness, and should be of the highest calibre of intellectual achievement, i.e. manifesting extraordinary creativity and shaping the future direction of their chosen field. These Junior Fellows are selected by the Senior Fellows, with whom the President and Provost of the University, and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, ex officio, administer the Society. Those elected receive three year fellowships.

I could have been a Harvard Fellow, but I chose not to.

Yup not every Dr is a medical doctor
False. It should actually be illegal to refer to yourself as "Dr" if you aren't an actual medical doctor. As it is, respect for yourself and the medical profession should prohibit yourself from adopting the title just because you earned a doctorate in something.

it is not false, you just disagree. Heck there's a guy at Marshall who insists on being called DR, who does not even have an earned Doctorate, just gave a graduation speach and got an Honoary DR from like WV state or something.
