In honor of 50 years, I'm doing a full watch through of all 50 seasons (well, at least on in the background while I work).

I no longer want to hear another word about how the show hasn't been funny in X years. Large segments of these season 1 episodes are objectively bad, and they just drag on. I understand they were groundbreaking for the time, but my goodness...

Belushi is fantastic though, as is Chase and Aykroyd.

I’ve watched a lot of the episodes from that first cast. There was about as much crap there as there was with every other good cast. The separation amongst the casts is the ones where there is an abundance of crap.

Sounds like a fun exercise! And yeah - nostalgia is powerful; I'm sure all the episodes in the early 90's I love would have their share of duds as well. Share highlights you find worthwhile!

Not saying there wasn't some junk from that 1st cast, but not all comedy stands the test of time.

I mean Gomer Pyle just ain't funny anymore...only annoying.

No matter how much Two Wild and Crazy Guys might have been funny in 1975, it's not anymore.

1400 hours? What am I missing?

Yeah, I won't be finishing it during season 50. It's a great background in my office thing to have on though. I've run through so many shows that way over the years (obviously only works for light shows, first one I did when streaming became a thing was Cheers).

When I saw 1400 hours my first thought was Pilots require less training. Then I thought he'll finish watching by 2036, Kudos and Holy sh-t that's a lot of SNL.

Have been watching and thoroughly enjoying the SNL50 series and just finished the More Cowbell episode and while awesome, was bummed only Horatio Sanz from the skit (and Walken too I guess) didn’t get interviewed. Most shocking to me was that Farrell wrote it.

Still working through Season 1. So much here that would never air today. The Samurai hotel sketches wouldn't fly, Chevy Chase and Richard Pryor doing word association with racists terms. Good stuff though.

I'm saving some time skipping things like the Dregs and Vestiges segment, some of the odds variety show style performances, etc.

A few more early notes;

1. I kind of like the variety show feel of season 1. Just a very broad of range of performances.
2. Aykroyd is the best actor of the group it seems to me.
3. Abba was really good, and the lead was a real smoke show.
4. I had no idea Al Franken was on the show from the very start.

Almost through season 1, and I take back what I said at the start. The first couple episodes have some rough patches, but the show quickly tightened up and is consistently awesome. The muppets stuff still just isn't for me, and there are some terrible musical guests in season 1, but the skits are fantastic at a great clip. Belushi continues to be incredible, I never fully understood why he was so beloved, getting it now.
