Join the William Tennent House Association in once again welcoming Clint Flack and Annie Halliday of the Mercer Museum as they present “By Force and Arms” which is the second part of the Doan Gang of Bucks County series. The presentation will take place on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 7 to 9 PM in the Auditorium at the Neshaminy-Warwick Presbyterian Church located at 1401 Meetinghouse Road, Warminster, PA 18974.

The Doan gang was a group of British loyalists, the most notorious members being five brothers and one cousin from the Doan family of Plumstead. The gang was composed of around 30 members who were accused murderers, attainted traitors, horse thieves, and ferried British prisoners of war to British lines.

This presentation will focus on the story of the famous Newtown Treasury robbery in October 1781. It also covers other important robberies and events leading up until October 1782.

Clint Flack is the Exhibit Specialist/Preparator at the Mercer Museum located in Doylestown, PA. Annie Halliday is the Library and Archives Manager of the Mercer Museum Research Library.

The cost to attend is $10 per person ($12 at the door). Registration can also be made by check payable to William Tennent House Association and mailed to P.O. Box 2572, Warminster, PA 18974 along with your name, contact information and number of seats. Refreshments will be served.

The third and final part of this series “The Giants of Villainy” will take place on Saturday, April 1, 2023, and explores the aftermath of their biggest robbery including court proceedings, executions, and exile. It also covers details of the Halsey cabin shootout in 1783. With the exception of the date, all information for this event is the same as the February Doan event, including start time, location, admission cost and registration information.
