I didn't know Kissinger was a scientist. **

Actually, I prefer Hondas. My mother on the other hand...

I think it was found to not be economically feasible. In other news lately, China fired up its “artificial sun” reactor which is essentially a fusion reactor. France is building one right now and the UK is planning on building one in the near future. If they can ever get these reactors up and going to capture the energy from it, there will never be an energy crisis.

They haven't been right yet unless there is a report out there I haven't seen that says it's NOT going to be as bad as all those folks are saying! Human's belief that they can control nature has just been proven time and again to be folly. This time we have wasted billions of dollars on something that was NEVER going to work. Much like communism/socialism rearing it's ugly head again. It has never worked and it can never work but people keep trying it. Complex systems are way too complex for most people on this planet.

There will be a time when solar technology will evolve and be more effective. But our nuclear tech is there now and continues to improve.
We could do nuclear power right in the U.S. and I really wish we would. Better for the environment and the budgets.
Still in some places industries and governments will cut corners. And those clouds and seepage don't recognize boundaries.

Cave living was good enough for our forefathers. We can always go back.

I think the gentleman covered the ecological issues with solar that you can't get around. An individual may be able to use solar in the future for their home and become energy independent but there are a lot of problems with that as well. You have to set up a bank of batteries to provide power during the night and convert DC to AC which results in an efficiency issue. I've looked into it thinking that I may get off the power grid but it is a lot more complex unless you decide to cut way back on your energy usage. You will have to periodically replace batteries and solar panels over time.

Sadly, nuclear fell out of favor with the masses in America years ago which forced the government to mandate no more nuclear plants or we would be a nuclear society now. Moving to electric cars would have been much easier!

Nuclear is the best option, but the waste is the issue. there are some really interesting things happening in Europe with the waste management that could be promising. Solar, wind, geothermal, tidal, hydro electric, etc are all on the table, as they should be. Modern reactors are very efficient, but still the waste and it is not particularly safe to put them everywhere due to earthquakes, etc.

fusion reactors are still 10 years away, and they have been for 60 years. But our 10 years is closer than it was 60 years ago.
