OT: JAWS movie debuted 50 years ago today.

I saw it as a 9 year old at the old Starkville theatre where the BWW and Maroon and Co is now.
My sister dropped me and a 10 year old girl neighbor off for a matinee around 2 PM or so.
The things you could do back in the day that wouldn’t even begin to think about doing in this day and age!

And back. Amazing that I survived. Ha.
Much different attitude about life now, sad.

Watching it again. I will saw ever since the movie came out 50 years ago I have never gotten in the gulf or ocean. I never will.

I was 10, but my parents wouldn't let me see it due to nudity, violence, and language. They wouldn't let me see a PG film unaccompanied anyway.

It was re-released in theaters 3 or 4 years later and my mom took me to see it.

We were on vacation at Daytona Beach when it was released. The beach was almost empty and the line to see it was out of the theater and down the road for a good piece.

Was wondering why NBC had it on. Talk about the dead time for me and TV as about the only thing I watch is college sports so scanning through the guide and saw that it was on network PT.
Actually bought the book for some reason and read it before the movie came out. My early lesson that movies are often nothing like the book.
Recall the book was more about the various characters of the town with the shark as a side story. Obviously the movie is all about the shark. Greatest movie score of all time?

My Dad told me it’s the only time he ever walked out of a movie after it was over and was relieved it was still daylight. The closest beach was 400 miles away.

That's it. Freaked me out and spent about the next 10 avoiding even pool water.

A good many movies are actually based on books. I enjoy watching a movie and if I enjoy it then read the book afterwards. I like to compare the two. Movies are generally condensed considerably but it’s interesting to me to see how closely the movie follows the book.

I watched it with my mom and dad at the Ellis Isle theater. I was 13. My dad spilled the popcorn when the head fell out of the sunken boat.

Jaws 2 was in Navarre. Original was in Martha's Vineyard. You can see the distinct difference in the beaches and water.

Snuck under the fence in the back and sat out in the grass and watched it.

Oh sure, just sticks in my head all these years later how completely different the two were. No doubt they picked the right story line and "character" to sell tix for a start of summer movie.
Been forever since I've watch it and had forgotten how graphic it was and for the time, how good the overall production was.
As mentioned on the score, amazing "2 notes" has endured all these years and likely worldwide. Had to look up who did it and of course it was the composing machine John Williams. Thought this was interesting-
John Williams composed the film's score, which earned him an Academy Award and was later ranked the sixth-greatest score by the American Film Institute.[77][78] The main "shark" theme, a simple alternating pattern of two notes—variously identified as "E and F"[79] or "F and F sharp"[80]—became a classic piece of suspense music, synonymous with approaching danger[81] (see leading-tone). Williams described the theme as "grinding away at you, just as a shark would do, instinctual, relentless, unstoppable."[82] The piece was performed by tuba player Tommy Johnson. By far the biggest freakout moment for me upon first viewing. I was ready for the jump scares by the time he scared the **** outta Brody on the boat.
