Just the earth letting everyone know who's really in charge. Again.

Was hiking in Europe about 15 years ago and a volcano erupted and I got stuck there for 10 more days than I had planned. Luckily I had a brother in law who lived in Sweden and I got to his place and stayed there. It was a nightmare trying to get home. All flights were cancelled, because of the ash from the volcano which had spread all over Europe and you couldn't get anywhere, unless you were going by land. Finally got a flight and it was nuts getting in and out of the airports.

And yet people rarely talk about undersea volcanic eruptions that have understandably raised ocean temperatures. 🤷🏼‍♂️

That was also Iceland. I was on one of the last flights out of Schiphol. My colleagues were flying a day later and spent, like you, the next 10 days in the EU…

My wife and I got to see a live volcano at Arenal in Costa Rica in 1999. Seeing the lava flow at night was a memorable experience. That volcano is now dormant.

Watched the last Icelandic eruption right after Covid, it is mesmerizing and sometimes enjoyable. Last time, they had several cameras set up around it and let people walk to it. Some found the cameras and were partaking in shenanigans.
