If the Dems would nominate a middle of the road candidate, and get away from the crazy fringe of the party, they'd win easily. A Bill Clinton type would win in a landslide.
The guy that won the New Jersey senate race had a great acceptance speech. Talked about loving the country and didn’t caveat it or say it grudgingly. No clue what his policies are like but if democrats could just nominate people that talked like that consistently, even if they voted basically for the same crazy shot, they would wipe the floor with republicans nationwide.

Think about it. If Trump were running against Reagan today he'd call Ronald an amnesty loving cuck and that would be that. Probably insult Nancy along with him and they'd be joining the graveyard of RINOs that Don has filled up over the last decade.

You do know Biden kept the tariffs in place that Trump started last time and even added more himself
I do know. And targeted tariffs with plans to onshore supply chain are smart. Sledge hammer tariffs are very dumb. He's marketing the sledge hammer this time.

ETA: he's marketing a lot of weird **** this time too. Who knows if any of it actually happens. There's no predicting what he will focus on and what he will toss aside with the garbage 🤷🏼‍♂️

Speaking of tariffs the trade deficit hit a 30 month high this week. So there will definitely be some pain as Trump has promised to impose a 60% tariff on Chinese goods and at least a 10% levy on all other imports. But with that being said the CPI is trending lower while real wages are trending higher, hopefully that will continue for at least another 4 quarters.

I think the tariffs and and attempting to stop price gouging are both very bad ideas if you really want to help consumers.
Agree at a high level - which is all we are provided by our candidates unfortunately.

Tarrifs for certain goods/situations? Can be good. Busting Price gouging in monopolistic situations? Yes. I've heard little from either candidate on how they would successfully implement/monitor either approach instead is just some pie in the sky buzz word campaign speech.

Regardless of which side won, I think having this over in one night is best for the country. Time to get to work!

Tariffs hurt the consumer in general. It’s very rare where it’s a benefit if ever.
I don't necessarily want tariffs, but all taxes hurt somebody. I think I'd rather the taxes be on consumption than on production.

I wish we could slowly trade out the ~15% FICA and replace it with a 15% (or whatever it would need to be roughly equivalent) VAT. Then FICA wouldn't be a huge impediment to employment in the US. Wouldn't matter whether the goods or services were coming from the US or overseas. That would also make it a more progressive tax and effectively shift some of the burden of SS and medicare to well off seniors and take some of the pressure off of poor workers. I also think that would avoid gumming up production by unduly taxing intermediate goods that cross borders.

How would SS be funded?
