Did you actually read the article? It's not a big deal.

Maybe it’s just me, but as the university president she doesn’t have to fly coach to a national event like the Rose Bowl. Basically if it’s related to university business she entitled. I seriously suspect others in that position use their schools aircraft too.

Personally vacations either fly commercial or hire a charter on her nickel.

No I didn't because it is behind a paywall for me like I posted. Stated I was just going by the headline. I don't think it is a big deal either. I was just pointing out that it was a headline in the local paper. My take is that someone is trying to make it a big deal by getting in the headlines to get people outraged. I am not outraged nor do I think it is a big deal.

Saw this headline in local paper today:

A private jet flew Penn State’s president to the Rose Bowl. Who paid for it?

Behind paywall for me:

The headline has me thinking people aren't happy with the changes she is making so lets start trying to smear her in the local news. Seems petty to me.
I’ve made this comment previously regarding SpotlightPA and it once again applies to this ridiculous article. They actually have a bureau in State College to “promote transparency” at Penn State. It’s a joke and is akin to attempting to start a witch hunt over something completely innocuous. Throw enough crap against the wall and something may stick.

Well, I would imagine she gets use of a University plane for personal use, but within reason. It's probably written into her contract.

She is a President of an $8.5BB entity - she gets perks. 🤷‍♂️

I'd have to think that she wasn't the only University rep on board that day.

If you’re NeelI, why would you take a commercial flight to the Rose Bowl with people who smell like us?
I am sure everything served on her flight was with tongs....

More than likely not. Football games are a high profile environment- Bowl Games even more so.
I wonder who wasn't invited to be on the plane that got their panties in a bunch and went public?

I don't think it was a situation where someone spilled the beans - this website/news media entity has been investigating how the University spends it's money - I don't have an issue with that. It's just not that everything that the University spends it's money on, is necessarily worth investigating because it's not always a nefarious situation.

I would be much more concerned if she DID NOT fly in a private jet to the Rose Bowl.

It was paid by Rose Bowl payout, click bait if I ever saw it. The organization is trying to show that PSU is wasting money, yet nothing was wasted as it was covered out of Rose Bowl expenses and she likely had donor meetings during the flight out and while at game.

If the chartered plane was a modified larger passenger aircraft I think that would raise eyebrows. For this, no.

the info, not behind a paywall:

Thank you. I was able to read it and it kind of justifies my original thoughts behind my original post. It starts off that way:

STATE COLLEGE — In the weeks following Penn State’s Rose Bowl victory over the University of Utah in January, Spotlight PA received several tips alleging the university chartered a private jet for President Neeli Bendapudi to attend the football game.

I'd hope she'd fly Southwest to avoid the extra baggage fees too. And please, no upgrade to board with group A.

She is way better than last two presidents. She has a helluva task to even begin to correct the incompetence of last 10-12 yrs.

That's the most sensible statement in this post ...at your post time
Haven't read anything beyond.

the info, not behind a paywall:

Why did the jet stop in Denver on the way to the game but not on the return trip? A fully fueled G5 has a flight range of 6500 miles.

Refueling at lower cost? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Dropping someone off? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Picking someone up?🤷🏼‍♂️

More dead weight than anticipated?🤷🏼‍♂️

I think, generally, citizens of Centre County should be grateful to have an investigative journalism group - like Spotlight - in the area. That Centre County demographic, of course, includes Penn State stakeholders, and Spotlight does indeed have one journalist spot dedicated to the PSU scene.

That said, there are probably 1,000 trees in the forest more worthy of barking up than this one (about the Rose Bowl flight). I wouldn't critique them for doing the story - and there is always some value to transparency, no doubt. But there are a lot of bigger issues in the community (including PSU related stuff) and one hopes those stories will fall into the mix as well.

Sure, but I am fine with it. She is an asset.
You completely missed my point. However, I frankly think this whole discussion is horse shat. She's the president of the University, who really cares how she travels.
