Need some help, guys. My mother-in-law has serious issues with her lower back and hip. She went to a neurosurgeon at Vanderbilt today and he told her that before he can do anything to her back she has to have her hip replaced. She has been to a doctor in Jackson a number of times for hip problems and has been told that her hip “wasn’t that bad”. She gets to Nashville today and is told otherwise. I know that she has 2 ruptured disks in her back and I feel so bad watching her trying to get around. She is caring for my 93 year-old father in law who is home under hospice care and she can barely take care of him. It’s a situation that breaks my heart-getting old is a tough deal.
I am asking if any of you know of a reputable orthopedic surgeon in the Jackson area who she might be referred to. They live in Rolling Fork and Jackson is where they usually go if they need a specialist. I just don’t believe that the ortho she has seen in Jackson is right about the hip. Her daughter (from her first marriage) is a nurse practitioner and I’m sure she got the referral to see the orthopedic in Jackson in the first place. I’m just really concerned that if she doesn’t get some help that she will end up in a wheelchair. Thank you for any information that you can give me in advance!
