"All the news that's fit to print - in order to distract from the real news" is the new journalistic motto!

Interesting that the Navy was aware from the outset of an acoustic anomaly at the time and location the sub went missing.

I don't think anyone missed this stuff - people have a remarkable capacity to comprehend more than one thing at a time.

If you are mainstream news focused, you miss a lot. The stories mentioned above were buried in favor of "other news". Most in the general public do not go looking for the real news and assume they are seeing the "real news".

I can certainly see that if someone only gets their news from TV. You can only show one thing at a time and the most sensational story sticks as that keep people’s eyes on the screen.

But any website has 20-30 stories right there together when you open it up. It’s hard to miss all the other things happening in the world.

Okay, I agree that you are overestimating people and assume most consume the news like you do.

No doubt what use be known as sosus hears this sorta stuff in the ocean when it happened.. just like how they found K-129 back in the cold war... sosus triangulation was pretty accurate back then and probably is way better these days.
but i doubt they wanted to come out and say "hey this sub imploded" before getting assets out there to make it look good and then recover..
