I don't think I've ever seen an NFL schedule as tough as next season will be for the Philadelphia Eagles. It features away games at Kansas City, Minnesota, Green Bay, Buffalo, Los Angeles Chargers, and either Tampa Bay or Atlanta (plus Washington) and home games with Detroit, Denver, Los Angeles Rams (again plus Washington). That's 11 of 17 games against 2024 playoff teams including all the best teams in the league. A record of 10-7 or 11-6 might actually be pretty decent.

OUCH!

When you come in near the top with the best record, that’s how it works.

Makes it hard to build a dynasty. You would think the NFL wants parity.
Per Prince, they are going to Parity like it's 1999.

The tough part of the Steeler schedule was the 3 game stretch over 10 days vs Philly, Baltimore, KC. Otherwise, the Steelers faced 7 teams that were in the 23/24 playoffs.
The Eagles will have 10 playoff teams from 24/25 on their 25 schedule, or 11 teams if Denver makes it.

You missed the fact that the Steelers started the year with the Falcons, Broncos, and Chargers. All possible playoff teams this year. Then ended the year with all their divisional games plus the Eagles and Chiefs. It’s big boy football. No excuses, plus the Eagles have the luxury of playing soft divisional games against the Giants and Cowboys so that’s four easy wins.

I'm using the criteria of playoff teams when the schedule is made (last year playoff teams for Steelers), consistent with the OP. If you want to change the criteria you have to wait until next season to see how the Eagles opponents fared and until next week to see how many Pitt opponents actually make the playoffs (the Falcons won't).

If you want to use that criteria and assuming Denver is in and Atl is out, the Steelers have played 7 games against current playoff teams. That would go to 9 if they lose to Cincy this weekend.

Wouldn't the Commanders be similar given that the division's schedules are set up the same way:
  • Six games against divisional opponents — two games per team, one at home and one on the road. (same)
  • Four games against teams from a division within its conference — two games at home and two on the road. (same: NFC North)
  • Four games against teams from a division in the other conference— two games at home and two on the road. (same: AFC West)
  • Two games against teams from the two remaining divisions in its own conference — one game at home and one on the road. Matchups are based on division ranking from the previous season. (Eagles should be slightly stronger #1 vs #2)
  • The 17th game is an additional game against a non-conference opponent from a division that the team is not scheduled to play. Matchups are based on division ranking from the previous season. (Eagles should be slightly stronger #1 vs #2)
I'm not sure who those last couple of opponents will be but I would think they'll be close. Either way the schedule lines up poorly for both since they both go against the NFC North who have 3 teams going in and AFC west with 2.

Yes. Every year is different. Just because a team makes the playoff this year doesn’t mean squat next year. No need to fret a year in advance. If the Eagles are as good as everyone thinks they are, then it shouldn’t matter, right?
