I've watched TNG (loved), DS9 (hated), Voyager (liked), and Enterprise (loved). Where do I start with the new iteration of shows in the last decade?
Ok, so most of Star Trek Discovery sucks and I mean absolutely 17ing sucks and has the most insufferable lead in a generation, Michael Burnham. That being said, season 2 introduces Captain Pike (played by Anson Mount, Mr. Bohannon from “Hell on Wheels”) and the crew of the Enterprise. Michelle Yeoh is the only other good thing about that show.
So, I’d say if you can stomach it, watch Season 2 of Discovery and then never revisit Discovery again because you can now focus on Strange New Worlds, which follows Captain Pike and the pre-Kirk days of the Enterprise. I 17ing love this show! It’s everything you could love about the original series. There are some dry moments, but most of the characters are so goddam likable, those get overcome.
You don’t need to watch Discovery to get SNW, but there are some allusions early on to events that took place on Discovery that you might be a little lost about.
Lower Decks is a really fun show. It’s animated and takes place around the TNG/DS9/Voyager timeframe. It’s got a lot of really deep cuts and Easter eggs for longtime Trekkies. It’s animated, but it’s not a kids cartoon.
Picard takes place decades after TNG. The first season is a little rough, but the rest of it is fantastic! It’s a fitting send off for that crew.
Sector 31 is a movie that follows Michelle Yeoh’s character from Discovery. It is garbage, which is a shame because her character was one of the few high spots of Discovery. It’s a heist movie, but it’s shot like 90’s made for TV garbage and the acting sucks.
Star Trek Prodigy is 100% a kids’ show. I’ve only watched the first episode.
