See how many you can find from more than, say, 50-75 miles from the shores of Lake Ontario or banks of the St. Lawrence River.
There's one at Great Bend, PA between Binghamton and Scranton on I81

OK but that is not the fault of Wawa or Sheetz. They have a business model and that model needs space that is not found downtown.

You need to push your local planning and zoning boards and Borough Council to get the businesses back to downtown.
Exactly. I love people who complain about how other people invest their monies but don’t understand the problem at hand or engage in the solution. Wawa is likely going to locate outside of the Borough of State College and will take advantage of the changing demographics of the state college area. That is not Wawa’s problem. State College Borough has a master plan which they are executing against. If people are concerned about downtown, get engaged to find a solution.

They're adding a Wawa in Scranton and another on Market Street in Kingston (across the River from Wilkes-Barre). No more boundaries!

lol, I was at a soccer tournament in the past year, and upon leaving it went to a Wawa. There were some kids there that were having some trouble with the order screen, and I decided to help them. After I did so for a minute, the mom of one of them appeared, and we got to chatting. Turns out they were from upstate NY, but the mom grew up in SE PA. She said whenever they are in the SE PA region, they always stop at Wawa, as there is nothing remotely close to it where they live.
Oh absolutely!! Whenever we’re back in the area we load up with Wawa essentials. My wife swears by their milk…we bring a cooler so it survives the trip back to RI. People up here think we’re crazy for raving about a convenience store.

I know nothing about Wawa, but Sheetz in Western Pa seems to be getting a jump on the competition by installing e-charging stations at many locations.

On the Wawa expansion front, I am pleased to hear about coming to State College area.
And as noted earlier in the thread, they are actively filling the void between VA and FL. I learned a few months ago that Wawa plans to open on the Outer Banks in Kill Devil Hills!
Wawa in OBX
Works for me!

Just what we need, more gas stations and convenience stores.        How about figuring out how to fill all the empty retail space downtown.

I think you’re asking someone to figure out how to undo the shift to online sales. Not likely to happen.

Where I live we have both Sheetz and Wawa. In fact, they are opening a new Wawa directly across the street from a Sheetz.

We have a couple Royal Farms as well.

And Wawa >>>>>> Sheetz>>>>>>Royal Farms

No, that is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about seeing more gas stations and convenience store filling our community. Would rather see other non-chain, more small businesses growing in our community. Covid and high rents have killed retail businesses in the centre region.

Wawa announces major westward expansion. Wawa has announced today that it is expanding into Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana within the next 2.5 years. This in addition to their already announced southern states expansion. Senior leadership re-affirmed their plan to double the number of existing locations by 2030. Given that their current…. active units are approximately 900 locations….this growth is quite ambitious.

You said downtown retail, so I addressed downtown retail. Apologies.

Unfortunately Coach, Covid, high rents, and Amazon has pretty much killed small retail throughout the entire country. I’m not sure it ever comes back like it used to be.

Oh happy days are here again! Convenience food stores-related prayers answered. ;)

Wawa coffee is by far my favorite among many very good coffee options. I would go out of my way for their coffee anytime, which this location on Benner Pike will require.

Wawa milk was the only milk I would drink when living in Bucks County, now I'm drinking only Wegman's. Having more than one option would be a milk-drinkers dream. Not that I drink as much as I used to, but still. Too many other milks can taste nasty (looking at you Gallickers). The Wawa brand ice cream is good and makes for a viable alternative to main stream brands, too.

Wawa's food options are far better than Sheetz or Rutters, although admittedly, I'm not one to go out of my way for any of it.
Soon we need at least one in or at least closer to State College.

Actually Nova, we the taxpayers, are adding charging plugs to facilities across PA

The State of Pennsylvania received 171 million from the feds to install charging stations in PA. of which the state has registered 0.24% electric of the total vehicles in the state.

"The 2021 update to the Pennsylvania Electric Vehicle Roadmap produced by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection showed of the 12 million registered vehicles in the commonwealth, more than 29,000 are electric passenger vehicles, a figure that has doubled since 2017."

I was driving back to NEPA from Philly last year listening on the radio featuring DEP Secretary speaking on site at a Sheetz of the great day it was on the installation of a couple of chargers at the gas station.
Later in his speech he also mentioned looking at some sites in impoverished areas around Philly for charging units. This was a head scratcher for me, it's difficult for me to invest into an EV.

The Driving PA Forward DC Fast Charging program provided grants to the following projects:

•6406 Truck Plaza LLC: $195,039 to install two plugs at a travel plaza/truck stop within one mile of I-80 Exit 42 in Emlenton, Venango County.
•Applegreen Electric: $250,000 to install eight plugs at a Pennsylvania Turnpike plaza serving the I-476 corridor in Jim Thorpe, Carbon County, and $500,000 to install eight plugs at two Turnpike plazas serving I-76 westbound and eastbound in Somerset, Somerset County.
•Blink Network: $233,268 to install two plugs at a KwikFill convenience store within one mile of I-80 Exit 29 in Harrisville, Venango County.
•Coen Markets Incorporated: $240,000 to install two plugs at the Coen Market convenience store within one mile of I-76 Exit 91 in Donegal, Westmoreland County, and $240,000 to install two plugs at the Coen Markets Travel Plaza within a mile of I-70 Exit 6 in Claysville, Washington County.
•Evgo Services LLC: $118,673 to install four plugs at a Wawa store within one mile of U.S. 202 in Malvern, Chester County; $145,528 to install four plugs at a Wawa store on PA-611 in Pipersville, Bucks County; $165,663 to install four plugs at a shopping center 2 miles from Rt. 422 in Collegeville, Montgomery County; and $167,326 to install four plugs at a Wawa on Rt. 202 in North Wales, Montgomery County.
•Giant Eagle, Inc.: $210,000 to install two plugs at a GetGo store within one mile of I-79 Exit 14 in Waynesburg, Greene County.
•Raceway Management Company, Inc.: $205,618 to install two plugs at a Onvo Travel Plaza within one mile of I-81 Exit 219 in New Milford, Susquehanna County, and $222,752 to install two plugs at the Onvo Travel Plaza within a mile of I-78 Exit 13 in Bethel, Berks County.
•Sheetz, Inc.: $250,000 to install four plugs at a Sheetz store within one mile of I-70 Exit 57 in New Stanton, Westmoreland County, and $250,000 to install four plugs at a Sheetz within a mile of I-81 Exit 77 in Harrisburg, Dauphin County.

With these grants, Driving PA Forward has now funded installation of 106 DC fast charging plugs in 34 locations around the state. Driving PA Forward launched in 2018 to permanently reduce NOx emissions in Pennsylvania by supporting clean transportation projects with funding from the commonwealth’s $118.5 million settlement with Volkswagen.

That seems to be an issue everywhere, it's a big problem here in Harford County, md. Why use an existing site when you can cut down a forrest and build.
Oh and pfftttt on Sheetz, WaWa, Royal Farms, High's, Turkey Hill and Ruters.
Bucees all the way. It's Jerkey nirvana...

understood, but there was either an official or an unofficial agreement between Sheetz and Wawa to not erect stores in the other's territory. That's slowly been being broken. Wawa has had a few facilities in the Lancaster and Lititz area for some time, and that's traditional Sheetz territory.

I find it interesting that Royal Farms, which is traditionally in MD, has erected several stores/gas stations in the Philadelphia suburbs. I guess there wasn't an agreement between them and Wawa, as Wawa has quite a few stores in Eastern MD.

Florida has become pretty big for Wawa, in terms of a growth area. I've read that the Wawa stores in FL are quite popular.
Royal Farms chicken is very good.

Living in DFW I have a buc-ees 25 min from my home. A big fan of theirs….exceptionally well run concept and they regularly win national retail association awards in several categories including the cleanliness of their restrooms etc. I am also spoiled as I get my Wawa fix each summer when I head to the Jersey Shore( Avalon) in July/August. Wawa has major expansion plans for Tennessee…..South Alabama ( coast area)…..Florida Panhandle….Kentucky….Mississippi Coast area….Indiana and eventually Michigan.

Buc-ee's is Wawa on steroids.
I can get fuel, a fountain drink, a fresh carved brisket sandwich, a pair of Columbia fishing shorts and a new smoker all in the same stop. :)
👍 I’ve lived in south TX (Northwest Houston) since the early 90’s and agree. I’ve also traveled all over the country and haven’t experienced a true Buc-ees like competitor

Correct Tom. Good friend of mine works at Wawa corporate HQ and knows the family owners well. Both owning family's of Wawa and Sheetz sit on each others boards. They have an agreement not to open a store within a certain mile radius of each other... UNLESS the other family approves it. That is why you see Wawa and Sheetz right next to or very close to each other as they have gotten approval. Wawa is now moving big into TN and also NC and SC. However in NC and SC they will initially anyway be strictly close to I-95 there are no short term plans to push out through those states. FL is going well for them and they are continuing to be aggressive in building out Florida. Yes there is also long term plans to jump over the Mississippi river and push west.
