We stayed at tru and the grand gateway. Both convenient to all those sites you mentioned. We visited all those sites. Along with Custer, wind cave and the mammoth dig site. Grand gateway is not really updated but old school and convenient. Both had water slides for the kids, but I think a lot of hotels up there have water slides.

Is that in Rapid City?

Depends on what type place you’re looking for, but I like the Mt Rushmore KOA for some kind of camping. Custer has some good places as well.

Friends of my son and daughter-in-law own and operate Devils Tower Lodge. Never been there but they are a great young couple and the Lodge gets excellent reviews.

Are there's things to do in Rapid City like water park or something along those lines.
I’m not sure. I think they have some indoor water parks. We went at the end of may. We also did the badlands and took a trip up to teddy roosevelt in North Dakota. That’s why we stayed at 2 different hotels.

My wife and I stayed in Custer while up in the Black Hills area a couple years back. It was pretty convenient for all the attractions you mentioned. We'll definitely go back.

We stayed in Hot Springs which is south of Rapid City. They have a Mammoth Dig site there. You ride through great wildlife areas to all the standard tourist locations. Do your research on Custer State Park because I knew little of it before we went and it was outstanding.

Stayed in Rapid City a few years back. Strong recommend. Very easy to get to many areas from there - saw Mt Rushmore, Devil's Tower, Deadwood, Crazy Horse, Badlands...

Take a peak at Crazy Horse (though many years from completion), is still a neat mountain sculpture. I only have 2 states to add to my bucket list and that is Montana and Nevada. Thinking about driving out there sometime soon. For most folk, Alaska and Hawaii are the 2 hardest states to get around visiting......most expensive too.

My wife and daughter loved the Horseback riding in Custer State Park. They did the Half Day ride. My wife grew up doing horse shows and rodeo and her sister still owns a Cutting Horse ranch where she rides periodically. So for her to think it was excellent says something. I went fishing while they rode.

I'm going up that way in about 2 and a half months. Stopping at Wall Drug on my way to Deadwood, where we will see Mt. Rushmore.

After that, we are going to Island Park Idaho and going to Yellowstone for 3 days.
