Exactly.When Katrina came thru, my cousin was without elec. for about 14 days. I asked why he could not run the fridge, and other stuff...,
because I knew had a good generator. Said he could not get gas.
After Katrina I got rid of my gas generators and bought 2 dual fuel Champions with a parallel kit. Each generator will run 20 hours on a regular propane tank and propane is easier to find.

Next house we build I will include whole home generator or solar with batteries. Generator will be $12k and solar will be $20k, but with solar you can sell electricity back to grid and use your batteries every night. (Solar Also currently has tax credits but that can change anytime)
Check out Signature Solar. They sell EG4 solar equipment and it looks intriguing…
