Me, family at my house. I'll link the turkey recipe btw did them every way you could imagine over the years; smoked, fried, roasted...this recipe is the family favorite to date. Of course, at thanksgiving I'll be a khzir, chazer (pig in yiddish) and eat drink and be merry. Can't wait. This Thanksgiving will be my sedative and cure for the disappointment of my expectations for PSU Football this year.

How do you folks prep your Turkey?

Shalom

Family and and some close friends at our house as always - 10 of us in total. This year my birthday falls on Thanksgiving Day, so we will celebrate both and it’s a big one. Also celebrating 20 years of surviving cancer (and a host of other things), and I just got a lot of good family news I won’t go intro here. But its an especially nice Thanksgiving Birthday Day in the Nitwit Household! The 20 pound turkey is in the freezer and the traditional accompaniments never change. I stay out of that and leave that to my wife. I’ll handle the champagne and the charcuterie board appetizers - cheeses, salamis, pate, crab dip, nuts, crackers, etc. My custom ordered birthday cake is a chocolate ganache topping over a vanilla cake with a peanut buttercream filling. But of course we’re having pumpkin pie and our friends always bake chocolate chip cookies as well. Wherever you are I hope you enjoy yours and be thankful this year for what life has brought you. I’ll be heading on a bucket list vacation to Montreal the following week and have Canadiens tickets one night and reservations at the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City a few days later for a special extended celebration.

Wife and I rotate thanksgiving and Christmas at each side of our family. This year thanksgiving is back in swpa where my 70 year old mom will still cook as if every family member will be there even though some can’t make it.
Christmas will be with the wife’s family on the beach in Bethany

I love Thanksgiving. No gifts involved. Just hang out and eat and drink all day with football in the background. We host. My parents, my in laws and my wife and boys. My brother and sister in law and their kids usually come, but they are going to her parents this year. We are looking forward to getting my PSU freshman son home for the week. Enjoy fellas.

Rolling back to Doylestown, PA from Delray Beach, FL to get some of my mothers turkey stuffing. Still stuffs the bird and absolutely love it. See family and friends although many of my family now is migrating to the Carolinas and Florida. Watch football and stuff my face with turkey, stuffing and cranberries. Even better the next day when I make a turkey, stuffing, cranberry, cole slaw with gravy sandwich.

We have a reservation at Union Park for Thanksgiving and also at the Ebbitt Room Wednesday and Washington Inn Friday.
We used to really like Godmother’s, but it closed during COVID and never reopened.

I am fired up! Work has been a shitshow this year and I can’t wait for the time off. Three oldest daughters are coming home from school, I will be cooking on three different surfaces, I already have beer and wine bought for the day. How could I not be fired up?!?!?!?!

Here is a question ... My mother still stuffs the turkey with stuffing plus makes more in a casserole dish. Who still stuffs the bird with stuffing or family still does that? Seems like its a slowly dying tradition? Personally I think it tastes better cooked in the turkey.

@Mr. Potter

Great thread. Everyone should get excited about Thanksgiving because we all have so much to be thankful for.

We pulled out the old reliable recipes today and look forward to shopping for all necessary ingredients tomorrow.

Is there anything better than getting up early on Thursday and cooking all morning?

If my mother was still with us, I’d ask her where the “recipe” started. I know it goes back to my great grandmother Mercer to her daughter/my grandma Malone to my mom to me. My 23-year old loves to cook, so I should start showing him the process.
Quarter sized pieces of bread, chopped onion, chopped celery, egg and sage. I’ve added sliced carrots that ggma Mercer didn’t. I’ve also added taking the liver and heart from the bird by dicing it to add to the mixture. Moisture provided by chicken broth and milk.
Stuff the bird and add the remaining on the side of the cooking dish or another pan.
Cook the bird on my grill just like I would in the oven.
Can’t beat this type stuffing.

Very similar to ours.... I think it at least goes back to my great grandmother. Quarter sized pieces of bread and we melt and sautee chopped onions and celery with several sticks of butter in a pan then drizzle that over the bread. Sprinkle on Bell's seasoning (Just love Bell's seasoning) then stuff the bird and make another batch for the casserole dish in the oven. Very simple but man is it good.

If CB-West wins tomorrow night against CB-South, they will host the District One championship game next Friday. Unfortunately they lost their best player Conor McFadden two weeks ago. With nice weather here tommorow, expect an overflow crowd at War Memorial Field.

Forgot. My mom used to have me tear it up the night before and let it dry out. I don’t always get that done now.
MIL has a canary when I taste test the raw mixture for a “sage gauge” as it has raw egg.

I am an East grad soooo.... LOL... West I believe has lost their 3 top players to serious injuries QB, RB, best athlete. Amazing what they are doing, believe all 3 played both sides of the ball.

Indeed, my mother always gets Stroehmann white bread lets it sit out overnight then tear up 1-2 loaves in the morning. 1 of the keys to good stuffing.

Stuffing is my favorite part of the meal. My wife always cooks it inside the bird and insists the juices from the turkey flavor it as it roasts. Over the years I’ve lobbied to try some additional ingredients such as sliced apples, sausage, walnuts, oysters, etc., but with no luck. She insists on preparing everything the way her mother always did it, and this is one time I’m better off letting her do her thing. It’s only once a year. Anyway the meal for me is all about the carbs. Side dishes rule. At least she doesn’t do marshmallows on the candied yams!

Going up to my cabin near Cooks Forrest. (Marienville PA). Been going there all my life. Bought it from my Grandparents. Usually have anywhere between 20 to 40 people (Wife has not told me whos is in and who is out yet). All Aunts, Uncles, Parents, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, Brothers and all they are married too. It is an absolute great time and makes me thankful for my family.

This might be the most shocking thing I’ve ever read on this board. I would have been willing to bet the house on you not being sober on Thanksgiving!
