We will trek down to Philly and have dinner with my son and his wonderful significant other. If she and my son breakup I will really miss my son, but I have my priorities. Daughter and her boyfriend will join us from New York, as will the significant others family.

We will take my cole slaw, candied sweet potatoes in Grandma's casserole dish, baked corn in the other Grandma's casserole dish, dressing from an old family recipe, and peas.

I look forward to the white wine and turkey and gravy. It is always fantastic. Significant others mother knows wine. :D

Daughter texted me two pics last night. One was the Empire State Building bathed in blue light, for Diabetes Awareness. The other was Macy's with their Christmas decorations and people sitting in the street. I think there is nowhere more enjoyable than New York City during the holidays. Bryant Park, the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center, the Thanksgiving Parade and Central Park if it snows.

I also look forward to a move to somewhere midway between New York and Philadelphia. Far enough away to give the kids space, but close enough to make a visit cheaper and quicker. Does anyone have any ideas on a good location? Long Island would be great, I know it is nowhere near in between, but I can dream.

Cape May is awesome. Have fun! Take out from the Lobster House?
Give me that cheddar cheese and crackers by the bar. Snapper soup, broiled sword fish, baked potato as big as a football with all the extras, green salad with blue cheese dressing. The wife will have pasta with assorted shellfish. Two manhattans, both for me. I will drink to those no longer with us and all the memories. I love that place.

Just had foot surgery so I will be in Lazy Boy chair for most of the holiday in Beautiful Destrehan, LA.
Best part is that is that the high temperature is projected to be 58 degrees. It's not unusual for it to be in he upper 70's.
Daughter and SIL will be here for the bird.

Rolling back to Doylestown, PA from Delray Beach, FL to get some of my mothers turkey stuffing. Still stuffs the bird and absolutely love it. See family and friends although many of my family now is migrating to the Carolinas and Florida. Watch football and stuff my face with turkey, stuffing and cranberries. Even better the next day when I make a turkey, stuffing, cranberry, cole slaw with gravy
Here is a question ... My mother still stuffs the turkey with stuffing plus makes more in a casserole dish. Who still stuffs the bird with stuffing or family still does that? Seems like it’s a slowly dying tradition? Personally I think it tastes better cooked in the turkey.m

Any Berks/Bucks Dutch here still call it filling?

I stuff the turkeys and make stuffing “on the side” as well. Extensive charcuterie board. Ham with mustard-maple sauce, brined and rubbed turkeys with garvy, mashed potatoes, baked corn pudding, Brussels and bacon. Homemade pecan bars plus other desserts. This year’s signature cocktail is a “High and Dry” (similar to a Negroni). Hosting 16 this year, incl my 91 year-old mom, who just got out of the hospital. Always a great day! Last year, turned into a major after-party! 🍸🥂🍷🙃

If I'm lucky enough to not be drafted for a 16 hr shift, I'll be having a typical Reading Thanksgiving. Ham with Horseradish, Turkey, Pernil, Rice and Beans, Sweet Potato Casserole, Corn Casserole, Green Bean Casserole and of course Filling. Finished off with Pumpkin Pie!

Add in Family, Football and probably a Nap and the day is done.

I am fired up! Work has been a shitshow this year and I can’t wait for the time off. Three oldest daughters are coming home from school, I will be cooking on three different surfaces, I already have beer and wine bought for the day. How could I not be fired up?!?!?!?!
Edit: I had beer and wine bought for the day. Turned out that day was yesterday (for the beer at least). Will need to restock.

Nice suggestions for visiting NYC during the Holidays. We've got two daughters living in Queens and are going to visit in Dec and see all those hopefully.

My one daughter's boyfriend works for Macy's and so they are going to be carrying a banner in the parade this year. They will be going to spend Thanksgiving afterwards with his family out on Long Island. My other daughter will be renting a car with some friends and trekking back to Rochester Wed afternoon before Thanksgiving. Better them than me!

My daughter and her boyfriend are looking to get out of NYC eventually. The novelty has worn off. Looking at Asheville, NC. My other daughter is loving NYC, but will probably follow her sister in the end. In any case good luck with your decision making.

Two T-giving this year - my mother's house for local on Thursday and then Friday up to Queens for a Thangsiving lunch at 1 PM- have an uncle who has mobility issues and did not want to make a trip to South Jersey....so we are trundling up there. My only request is that we be home in time for 730 kick off - which I can safely assume we won't be, as nothing ever happens on schedule with family. 😏

It’s far and away the best holiday of the year - school and kid activities are paused, and it’s three days of family, football, food, and naps. Also my birthday (born on Thanksgiving so only happens every seven years). I hat that we already have our Christmas stuff up but I do like the ambiance from the tree when watching games at night.

This Thanksgiving will be a tough one for me. My mom passed on 9/7/23, she was 87 years old. Her death was especially tough on me as she was young in spirit and very independent. Her mind was sharp, she still drove, cooked and addressed all household responsibilities. Last Christmas we found out her gall bladder was impacted with stones but the surgeons refused to operate, citing a weak heart. She died 8 months later.

So in her memory we are going to cook her favorite dishes which included a boneless turkey breast, stuffing, stuffed mushrooms, corn, sweet potatoes and asparagus. In honor of our rummy 500 card games (or should I say battles) I will have a cup of espresso, lobster tail dessert and a deck of cards next to her favorite La-Z-Boy recliner.

My fav, a front row to the sidewalk freaks, cars and bikers. Don’t forget to score a cigar lest you give up and lose your street bar stool
Or Fran’s Pub which is right across the street from Havana. Usually there are a lot of motorcycles parked directly in front, often belonging to female cyclists. It’s a colorful place.

“Running” in a local park district’s Turkey Trot at 8:30AM. It’s dangerous with all those mothers pushing those strollers past me!

Then Baker’s Square to pick up a French Silk pie.

Then need to finish seconds and thirds so can get to the serious stuff: turkey sandwiches on fresh Wonder(ful) bread.

THEN attack the previously mentioned pie!

@Bwifan I took a peak at my stuffing/dressing recipe.
On the top of the page it reads-
Great Great Grandma Apt
Great Grandma Mercer
Grandma Malone
Margaret Beck (my mother)

As I pass this along to my son, we will have a lot of years of making stuffing!

Hope you’re having a great day.

What great memories and making new ones. Hope you and the family are having a Happy Thanksgiving! We just tore up the bread and are getting the butter, onions, etc ready for a quick sautee then over the bread sprinkle the bells seasoning and stuff the bird.
