I could go on forever but will start with these 5 disasters:

1. F Troop
2. McHale’s Navy
3. Get Smart
4. Beverly Hillbillies
5. Mr. Ed

The 1960s was the most forgettable period for TV and an insult to people’s intelligence.

This was before cable when audiences had no available alternatives.

1. Any pseudo-reality show including, but not limited to, anything related to the Kardashians, Real Housewives of where ever the hell, any dating show on TV and the like.
2 Everything else that is currently not in syndication.

The latest incarnation of Star Trek is nearly unwatchable. The writing is awful.

TOS had some giants writing the scripts. They delivered often intelligent episodes.

This current group seems more committed to DEI and giving each member of a limited talent ensemble cast something to say, even if it adds next to nothing to story development.

I would compare this current Star Trek to the third season of TOS, but even that would be giving it too much credit.

I have to respectfully disagree Blair. I love watching all of those on the retro channels. My personal favorite was Green Acres.
The worst show I ever watched was 2 Broke Girls when I was visiting my daughter. Horrible!

I agree with you on 2 Broke Girls - all I can think, is that I was not their target audience.

On the flip side, I liked the following 1960s era shows:

1. Andy Griffith (I still watch the episodes today. A timeless great show)
2. Green Acres (I had a huge crush on Eva Gabor)
3. Petticoat Junction (Meredith McRae was fabulous)
4. Bewitched (who didn’t like Elizabeth Montgomery)
5. It Takes a Thief (my favorite)

Really?

How about -

The Dick Van Dyke Show
The Prisoner
The Avengers
Star Trek
Combat
Mission Impossible
The Twilight Zone
Hawaii Five O
The Flintstones
The Andy Griffith Show
The Fugitive
Monty Pythons Flying Circus
The Addams Family
That Was the Week that Was (My favorite)

Get Smart was funny as hell and great satire.

You will be hard pressed to find comedies today that will be able to stand the test of time.

PS: I forgot to add another favorite, The Wild Wild West. It was Steam Punk before there was Steam Punk. Special mention goes to the late genius Michael Dunn, whose character Dr Loveless ranks with Wo Fat and Newman as one of the greatest recurring characters in TV history.

Some of these are listed in my post above. I agree there were some good shows. The original poster asked about the worst ones. Your list contains the best ones.

I directed my post to your specific quoted statement.

If the 1960s were as bad as you say it is surprising they influence film and television to this very day. Tent pole franchises like Star Trek, Mission Impossible, the Addams Family.

I doubt that anyone on the planet has watched more tv than I have in the last 67 years. I’m not proud of that, it’s an unfortunate fact.
I believe I am uniquely qualified to provide a definitive list.

However, I will only consider serious attempts to make successful television. That means no copy cats, reality shows, or summer replacements.

Behold! My list-

Saturday Night Live With Howard Cosell - Not to be confused with SNL. A variety show that was a total train wreck.

Battlestar Galactica ( The Original) I remember the huge buildup for this show. It was on the cover of major magazines, talked about for months, and then it appeared and we watched the grand mediocrity of the writing, acting and design.

Casablanca- Who would have the balls to even try? David Soul as Rick?!?! Does not compute.

The Chevy Chase Show- I remember slipping into the kitchen to peek into the living room when my parents were watching The Tonight Show hosted by Jack Paar. Chevy was no Jack Paar.

The Big Bang Theory - Let’s do the same never changing show season after season. Unlikable characters, rotten premise, unwatchable.

Charlies Angels (Any version) - OK who does not like T&A? It was even a decent premise! However, the acting, writing and execution were awful.

The Netflix comedy about the last Blockbuster store is as bad as it gets. I couldn’t even make it through the first 20 minutes. The writing was that bad. Not to be confused with the documentary which was really interesting.

. David Schwimmer’s character should have been beaten to death in season one
OMG my wife has heard me say those exact words many times!

This could be a thread all of its own. But “Characters who should be beaten to death” is a bit too strong for any board. So let’s don’t even try.

Heil Honey I'm Home
This is in a category all of its own. Yes folks, this was a real show! The sheer incredible lack of common sense, the insensitivity to the fact there were living victims, and the very premise, were appalling.

Imagine, if you will, “John Wayne Gacy and His Friends”, “The Ted Bundy Comedy Hour”, or “Cooking With Jefferey Dahmer.”

If all these TV shows are as bad as some here have said, just imagine how terrible the score of pilots that were never aired were.

I had a mad crush on Emma and the car she drove.

Never watched Friends much but I could watch Jennifer Aniston 24/7. The other characters were annoying. David Schwimmer’s character should have been beaten to death in season one
+1. I only really liked Phoebe's and Joey's character.

Honestly, latter day MASH is about as bad as TV gets, and I’d put it at the top of the list because it ran for so long.
Most recently, my wife loved to watch This is Us. It was brutal. Poorly written, overly contrived, and completely predictable. She often watch it in bed when I was already trying to go to sleep. Without even watching it I would call out what was going to happen next and was almost always right.

Granted, there are some doozies out there like the Brian Bozworth detective show (one episode) or Kelsey Grammer’s ‘Hank’ and David Chappelle’s spin-off of ‘Home Improvement’ that only lasted half a season. However, the fact that ‘2 Broke Girls’ lasted several seasons and is still being shown in re-runs boggles my mind. It made ‘Joanie Loves Chachi’ look like Shakespeare.

All I know is I laughed my head off to Dick Van Dyke, Andy Griffith, and Get smart as a kid. Many of the shows mentioned had multiple seasons, Some of the worst ever lasted a few episodes and were puilled- they were pulled quickly they were that bad.
