I use debit cards nearly every day- but not if it needs to leave my hand. I do agree about checking transactions - in fact I do that daily.I got it, too. Simply add the mail address to your Outlook blocked senders list. BTW, you should be checking your credit cards transactions as a matter of course. I do every few days. It drives my wife crazy asking her about transactions, but it's necessary. I also have spending alerts set on our three cards. Once every two years I must cancel reissue our main card, a co-branded rewards card, due to fraudulent transactions. You cannot be vigilant enough. And never, ever use a debit card when you can use a credit card because debit cards do not have the consumer protections. I only use debit card at ATM.
My mother's 80 year old cousin bought $300 in Apple gift cards and luckily her niece found out before she got scammed. This woman worked in a computer heavy environment until retiring a few years ago.
My friends father in law is now living with my friend and his wife after he got cyber scammed out of $12,000 while living at an assisted living facility. He was the police chief of a small municipality before retirement.
I like when they call me at work and tell me it's the IRS and that "I'm in very big trouble". I tell them that I began tracing their call upon pick up and they should expect the FBI to be arriving in short time. Please stay on the line until they arrive!![]()
Thank you for your service. The IRS and Social Security ones are the easiest since neither of them will contact you by phone to let you know there is a problem, it will always be my mail. I had one call me about Social Security, they hung up on me when I asked them if they knew it was against the law to impersonate a federal agent. I had one that took the number out of service after I called it 10 times and hung up after they answered, I was bored on my way home from work that day.
