Friend of mine sent this to me to gloat. I actually forgot we we were even ranked that high in the CFP era. Of course, that was the 2014 preseason before the A&M game.

18, that's due to the guy whose name you don't want to read. Because I like and respect you, I won't type his name.

This was my expectation. Not to rekindle the Chadwell v.s. Beamer debate....but there was no way in h$ll we were or are going to compete against GA, TN, FL , much less Bama and LSU trying to build an overall team, especially Pro-inspired offensive team/scheme being like them. Always going to have lesser coaches doing what they do, and most times going to have overall lesser talent.
Offensively we needed AND STILL need to go to something that gives us a chance to differentiate ourselves from the pack. Not unlike the mid 80s when we were in early run n' shoot. Automatically we went to competing with Nebraska, Michigan and Miamis of the world. UF did that with Meyer. Auburn did it with Mahlzahn two different times. Other examples are out there beyond those two. Those were just in our own conf. and shocked the world taking them to the highest highs and without those revolutionary offenses.....those highest highs wouldn't have happened.

The college game has changed. It is Offense-first. Look at defensive guru Nick Saban in his later years. He began emphasizing offense over his beloved defensive philosophy. Look at 2 programs: Ole Miss and Missouri today. They are not "worlds" ahead of us in recruiting rankings. And they still tend to be ranked in the bottom half of the SEC in recruiting. Yet, they both were Top 10 teams last year. Ole Miss was 13th in the nation in Total Offense. Missouri was 28th. Ole Miss is led by Lane Kiffin who has been an Offensive Coordinator and played Quarterback in college. Missouri is led by Eli Drinkwitz who was an Offensive Coordinator under Gus Malzahn in both high school and college. Kiffin and Drinkwitz have Offense in their blood. What does Beamer have in his blood? What was his identity as a staff assistant before becoming a Head Coach for the first time? Special Teams? Was he even good at that? He hires a buddy to be Offensive Coordinator here, who sucked. Then he replaces him with someone who was called the worst Offensive Coordinator in the NFL. As a longtime Gamecock fan who wants to see us back to where Spurrier had us, nationally relevant, it's VERY frustrating to me. I'm pulling for Beamer. I hope he gets the offense going this season. Forgive me 18IsThe Man, but I have to say the name: Jamey Chadwell. His Liberty team, last year, was 4th in the nation in Total Offense. That's why I wanted him here. That and because he is a WINNER. He has won 10 or more games at 4 different schools, producing 1 Top 10 team, 3 Top 15 teams and 2 Top 25 teams. But what do I know? I know little and claim less.

Would the run ànd shoot work today? It worked well between the 20's but not so well inside the 20's

I was not in favor of Chadwell in the last hiring cycle. If Beamer doesn't work out, I'd be fine with giving him a shot the next go-round.

The genesis of all your threads starts with a slight against SC, then a random question to divert from your dig. You are a master at it. Sure, later in a thread you’ll tone it back and try to blend in as a fan, but it’s so predictable. Come clean, you work for taternet right?

I disagree completely. I think he just points out the obvious. The problems we've had for my 50+ years of being a fan are as much about coaching hires as anything. His friend was pointing out that we once again missed on a coaching hire. I guess now you'll call me a tater too.

There are people saying our new coach in Baseball we missed on hiring a good person. We hired the winningest baseball coach in history. There’s always the grass is greener approach. Some people dwell on it. I’ve been on this board for many years and seen many coaching hire debates. What’s comical is the hot names at the time that you see people say we should’ve gotten end up somewhere else and 70% of the time they end up sucking.

and his friend doesn’t know that we missed on a coaching hire or not. I wasn’t talking about one post. And I don’t call people taters lightly, even though in the scope of world events who cares.

Right. This is not a dig. It's just statistics.

I am at the stage where I do NOT want to fire Beamer, even though I felt he was a bad hire. I want him to succeed. I THINK he is capable. Why? Because I have stated many times I feel he overachieved his first 2 seasons. But he underachieved last season. Unless he craps the bed this season, giving him a 5th season should be a "no brainer". By that time, you should KNOW what you have in a Head Coach. The problem for us is he has no track record. We KNEW Spurrier would get the job done. Right now, we are speculating on Beamer. But by the middle of the 2025 season, we will KNOW.
