Auburn has better soccer history than us (not recently though)
It's funny because I thought Auburn was some kind of soccer behemoth, but I went and looked at their history. Like Mississippi State, they only have one SEC Regular Season Championship (back in 2002) and both programs have been to the Sweet 16 twice (and that was the end of the road in all cases). They do have a lot more NCAA appearances than we do by like 18 to 4, but they didn't reach the Sweet 16 until 2015. They have an SEC tournament championship back in 2011, but they don't have a ton of accolades. Armstrong has almost accomplished more at State in the past 6 seasons than Auburn has in its history.

I didn't really start paying attention to our soccer team until the SEC Network launched in 2012, so when announcers like Anthony Craven or whatever would talk about Auburn being one of the best programs in the conference, I just took that at face value and thought that meant they had some sort of storied history, but it's a lot more like our softball team where there are a lot of NCAA appearances, but not much past that.

ETA: You're right about the recruiting advantages though.

All true, but I would add that the SEC as a whole has very little soccer history. Currently only two schools sponsor men's soccer and they are affiliate members of the Sun Belt for men's soccer. Only 1 national title on the women's side, UF '98, and only 4 total College Cup appearances for teams from the conference UF in 1998 and 2001, South Carolina in 2017, and Alabama in 2022. So, if he truly wanted a step up in prestige, he would have tried to get an ACC job instead of going to another SEC school.

My memory is bad but I don’t recall Auburn being an impressive town. Am I wrong?
Not impressive. But neither is Tuscaloosa. They just have more people. Alabama has over 5M people, plus Birmingham and Huntsville. That's really the main differences between our states, but it makes a huge difference for the two SEC schools in attendance, access to money, etc. You can extrapolate pretty much everything out from that.

Drago officially with Auburn.

Really hate to lose him. But not a surprise at all. Just hoping the fact the players found out Armstrong was leaving on social media & their relationships with Zimmerman keeps the team intact. Cause if not, we really starting over from scratch.

From what I've heard the players are very happy with Zimmerman being the coach.

Have I said how much I hate Cohen?

Yeah, it sucks, but not a surprise. The only thing that surprised me was the timing. I thought if he was going, it would be pretty immediately after Armstrong announced. He still has @hailstatesoc on his profile.

This is my favorite line by insider fans. Everyone is looking for other jobs. Doesn’t everyone unless you own your business. Loyalty only lies within our own household. Nothing else matters.
Yes. And one of the best ways to look for other jobs is to be successful at your current job.

How can Selmon sell himself to other programs right now, unless he just wants to be an assistant AD somewhere?
