Sorry, if this has already been posted. I may have just gotten woolly, but I didn't think that our lines were supposed to be that bad. I know we lost Brown, and I never thought we had the best in the conference. But absolute worst?
Is this guy crazy, are we worse than I thought, or a little of both.

Mississippi State: This was one of my surprise teams in '07. With a final record of 8-5, they did not disappoint. When everyone was down on Sylvester Croom, I felt strongly that he would start to produce. Last year, it was basically his first year with 'his' recruits on board. You have to hand it to Mr. Croom; he has done it the right way.

Staying the course, instigating his schemes, and recruiting high school talent instead of quick fix JUCO's. He now enters his fifth season with 14 starters returning from a bowl-winning Bulldog team. Things should keep going forward, right?
Not so fast. The Bulldogs in '08 won't be able to jump up and surprise people like they did to Auburn, Alabama, and Kentucky last year. They will get people's respect this year.

On offense, Wesley Carroll returns at QB. As a freshman, Carroll showed some definite signs that he could be a very good QB in the SEC. He is just plain raw. The Bulldogs will continue to ebb and flow with his growing pains this year. At RB, Anthony Dixon is one of the SEC's best. Not flashy, not awe-inspiring, he simply gets the job done. At WR, the Bulldogs will be much the same. Not flashy, not awe-inspiring, but effective.

If this unit is to improve, then Co-Eric Riley needs to produce. It is that simple. On the OL, they return one of the SEC's worst. This is primarily why I have them pegged 5th after an 8-5 come-uppance season. Nary a stud amongst them, and for a team that will likely need to rely on running the football to be successful, this just doesn't seem very fruitful.

On defense, they return the best DB in the entire country. Derek Pegues. The guy simply makes plays, and he will be the stalwart for the Bulldog D again in '08. Jamar Chaney and Dominic Douglas are solid LBs, but their front four are simply atrocious. Possibly the worst in the conference. Unless Jessie Bowman can step up big time, this will be a huge pain point for a defense that was very opportunistic last year. The Bulldogs 'back' seven must play brilliantly to cover up their shortcomings up front. That isn't a good recipe in the SEC.

When push comes to shove, I hate putting these guys 5th, but when you have one of the worst OL's and DL's in the league, it is simply a blessing that you aren't in the cellar. Even with a manageable schedule, I very much see the Bulldogs struggling to get to a bowl game in '08. Too many more teams that can whip them upfront.
