watching so many games down the stretch where some teams don't even have players to go into the game at a given position. makes the game less of a product and hurts the teams. I know it is about the $$$, but a roster size of 70-75 could help eliminate dumb situations where there are not enough DBs, OL, QB, etc.

coaches don't seem to like this, and it gets discussed every year. all you need to be is an owner who loses key games due to no players and this looks like a net win.

It’s not really $$$$ as mentioned they have to pay them anyway.

I am not sure why they don't just let them all dress. nobody wants to watch a game where the QB is WR who played QB in HS and also has to kick FGs.

NFL is already watered down enough. Adding more players to help them with more games and more playoff teams getting in just gets diluted more and more.

totally agree with that. look at the date of the NFL championship/Super Bowl over the years - keeps moving back. 12-14 games would be much more realistic with a couple off weeks.

since they are already playing 17 games + playoffs, I think it would help to have 70-75 active roster that dressed for games.

of course it is all about the $$$$ and someone has to take a haircut to make these changes happen.

NFL could easily start 2 weeks early (last weekend of August). Thought I had: they could (1) add a second bye week and an 18th game, and (2) expand rosters to 70, with 20 practice squad. Then, so as not to put additional strain on players, you can only start any given player for 16 games in a regular season. So you have to decide when to rest certain players, the bulletin board material that comes with that, more players earn livings from the NFL, the starters aren't adding more games to their body, the 16 game stat model for historical purposes would be back, etc...

Agreed. Also go back to 16 games and have 3 or 4 bye weeks with Super Bowl on Presidents weekend

Interesting.

The issue is injuries. I've never seen so many injuries before. The AFC north, IIRC, went through 10 starting quarterbacks for 4 teams this season (and every team had a winning record). But its not just QBs. I think the league is still trying to figure out the two pre-season games and 17 game regular season.

Yeah, I’ve never seen so many injuries. Buffalo got hit really hard.

I think the Browns started five different QBs, won with 4 different QBs. I also think they have lost 3 offensive tackles and their first string guard (the second team guard is attending the pro bowl).

I think you should be allowed to add three players if you have a game at the jets / giants stadium.

Sorry I have been away. Yes it has had for years a bad record of lower leg / knee injuries. They replaced the turf once already because of it but still seems to be An issue.

No "pre.season", 14 game regular season, one bye week, 16 team playoff. Season starts mid August
