The moment you get a severe high ankle sprain. Shorter lived, but excruciating.

Just had emergency gangrene gall bladder removal surgery a couple weeks ago…the hours before I finally headed to the ER were no fun….pain relief when they hooked me up to morphine IV…

Extremely sore swimmers shoulder in both shoulders, I am a side sleeper and could not sleep on either side for 3 weeks. I was miserable, after x-rays Dr said was over use but at 73 it is also body parts wearing out at old age. As my Dad always said "you get old you get everything but money ".

Kidney stone. The ER doctor told me it is the male equivalent of giving birth with no drugs. If that’s the case, how does civilization not end?
This^^^
It's like having a hot butter knife driven slowly into your back! It was the last and only time I had morphine.

mine- kidney stone

I'd rather get a needle in the eye- and yes, I've had several of those
I will second that. My first one woke me at 4:00 AM in discomfort. Went to the living room and lied down on the floor, unable to get comfortable. Before long I was writhing in pain, respiration up, pulse up. Got a drive to the emergency room, x-rays revealed the problem, and finally, the morphine drip settled me down. When it passed, I took it to the urologist and his eyes widened asking "Did you pass this?!". It was larger than most, I gathered.

When my father died unexpectedly of a massive heart attack, in 1999. No physical ailment has come close.
I lost my wife to cancer 4,698 days ago. I could count the good days I've had since then on my fingers. I feel like I live in a kind of purgatory.
As for physical pain.....I had sciatica for almost 6 months......started right after I got home from the Rose Bowl. Mornings were pure hell.

For me:

1. Gout. Just brutal.
2. Dry socket following a wisdom tooth extraction. When they packed that thing with gauze, I contorted myself so hard against the chair that I tore a chest muscle.
Big toe throbbing w gout attack Doctor insteads needle in toe to verify gout attack. That hurt. Doctor was upset when I screamed. Others would think he’s bad doctor

I hear you on that. Similar situation with my dad in 2006. He had a number of health issues in the years leading up to it, but it was still a huge shock followed by sharp grief.

Physically for me, it was a point in early 2017 when my back pain got so bad that all I could do was lie on an ottoman in the living room, unable to move or do anything but say “Owww…. owwww… owwww!” over and over again. My then-teenage son had to call for an ambulance which took my to the ER and they had to give me a morphine IV to kill that pain. Months of physical therapy were needed to get back to normal.

Until I started dealing with back pain in my early 40s, I had no idea how excruciating it could become. Unfortunately I’m in the middle of a mini-repeat of the 2017 incident right now. I was able to drive myself to the ER this time, but the pain level came close to that peak of 5 years ago. Currently working through physical therapy again. Fortunately the place I go to can work wonders.

Push-ups actually worked best for my sciatica, even better than stomach crunches. I still needed the cortisone pills, but as far as exercises went the push-ups worked best for me.

I’ve been mainly healthy for my 50 years. I did once either get a high ankle sprain or broken ankle playing badminton. I was drunk so it didn’t hurt as bad that evening as it did in the morning when I forgot about it and tried to stand up getting out of bed. No insurance at the time prevented me from getting it looked at but my right ankle is still twice the size of the left, 25+ years later. But that said, I’d say it was the kidney stones I’ve had. Miserable. I actually passed one at work and screamed as it was crowning. The last kidney stone led me to having to get a cystoscopy which would complete my top 3. A camera up the penis is not an experience I would recommend to any guy.

Having broken bones, torn ACL’s in both knees (twice each knee), sprained ankles, pinched nerves in my back, kidney stones were the worst of them all. The second time convinced me to stop drinking iced tea and switch to water.

Have had kidney stones, twice,...pain was minimal. Now rupture a disc in your back and have the sciatic fluid invade the nerve....terrible. I guess different people experience pain differently...had both my knees replaced at same time...more nuisance than pain..same with my hip replacement...just ache.

Probably my appendicitis (they caught it early thankfully and this is probably why the pain wasn’t as bad as I would have imagined appendicitis to be). The worst physical pain I have ever seen someone else in was when my uncle had a bowel obstruction that led to perforation. I was in middle school at the time and he was visiting for thanksgiving from out of town. I still remember the pain on his face. The recovery from that surgery was absolutely brutal as I’m sure you can imagine.

Had my back surgery at LV Hospital in 1995..cleaned the goo off my sciatic nerve and no pain since. Not sure what doctors recommend now...

I've had a finger smashed/broken in between a metal post and a barbell with 225 lbs. on it (and the resultant build up of blood underneath the nail, which was the worst part, until it was lanced and spurted out all over the place), an ankle shattered in 5+ places sliding into 3rd, a broken clavicle and compression fracture in my back from a head-on collision (with no airbag), back pain and sciatica so bad I had to take Vikes just to get to sleep when I was doing long-drive stuff, appendicitis ...

But easily the worst pain I ever had was habanero in the eye. Drinking and making a meal for then-girlfriend/now-wife, I accidentally rubbed my eye after cutting up fresh habanero peppers. No bueno. Eye felt like it was going to explode out of my head and the pain radiated into the brain like an intense migraine.

I have had 6 kidney stones, but my worst pain was recovering from the following surgery:
During J-pouch surgery, the surgeon will: Remove the entire colon and rectum, preserving the muscles (sphincter) and opening (anus) at the end of the rectum. Construct a pouch shaped like the letter J from the end of the small intestine and attach it to the anus (opening at the end of the rectum)

Sciatica from piriformis syndrome. Worst pain I ever felt in my life, brought tears to my eyes and could barely walk. Took a few months to get better. Only thing that helped was ice, PT, and a Tens unit that ran constantly. I wouldn’t wish nerve pain on any sentient being and have extreme sympathy for those who bear it day to day.

Mental pain - a lot of recent 4th quarter game giveaways.

Physical pain:

1) Back in the early ‘90s was in Philly for a week attending meetings at Cigna’s corp headquarters. Thurs eve back at the hotel my lower back started acting up, got worse and worse, the front desk called an ambulance and a police officer to my room, the officer took me to the closest hospital (Hahnemann) as I was pleading with him to shoot me and put me out of my misery. Two hours later they got to me and in two minutes I learned it was a kidney stone attack and in five minutes the morphine drip started to save me. Got back to Chicago on Sunday, had surgery a week later.

2) Earlier this summer made the mistake of not showering after golf and sat around in air conditioning the rest of the afternoon and evening. The back tightened up so fast and so badly over the next 24-48 hours it took me 5 minutes of pain to actually get out of bed and another 5 minutes to walk to the kitchen from the bedroom. Pain relaxing meds started to help but seeing one of my fellow dog walker’s massage therapist a week later really helped save me. No golf in March & April due to crappy weather then three weeks of no golf in June with the bad back. Yuck!

It’s a toss up for me. In 1986 my 3 year old GSP and a neighbors 7 year old German Shepard went at it and I was trying to find a way to separate them. Unfortunately my hand got too close and the German Shepard bite my left hand pretty bad. My hand looked like a catchers mitt for at least three days. No breaks, two decent scars with lots of pain.

The other incident occurred in Florida 1993. I was at the beach in shallow water when I stepped on a sting Ray. It whipped its tail and drove the barb stinger into my heel. Excruciating pain.

Easy --- a kidney stone. I'll never forget how good that shot of morphine felt.

However bad that pain was, a close second would be listening to Roseanne Barr sing (?) the National Anthem

I was replacing a 3/4" plywood floor back in 2007 and throwing it into a pile in my driveway outside with the nails still sticking out. As I threw the last sheet of 4' x 4' plywood, a nail caught my sleeve and pulled me towards the pile of nail infested wood. I stepped on one of pieces of plywood (nails up) and one protruded through my work boot, through my foot and came out the top of my foot. I immediately took a shower, washed it with alcohol, and drove to the bar to watch tOSU crush PSU. That was a painful day/week, but I've had much more painful things over the years.
