believe he hasn't been replaced as their closer yet.....Of course, Jenks has been horrible so they don't have many options......Paps era is now 4.32.....That has to be the worst for closers in the American league....

everything but ERA is actually looking pretty good for him. He's only been given 12 save opportunities in 25 appearances, with only blown 1 save and has no losses. He's also got 34 Ks vs. 4 walks (1 intentional) all year, so it's not really command that's the problem. I think he probably gets it turned around.

I don't get all the Paps hate from so many Red Sox people. Rivera has set an unfair standard for closers to live up to. Should they be consistent? Of course but any closer is due for a rougher than usual outing sometimes. Paps isn't unhittable and he isn't the greatest closer out there but these Red Sox people need to understand that without him, they wouldn't have their last ring. I think he's worked on his control alot this year to the point that more balls are put in play against him than before. Last year, it was wildness that put people on and he always ended up having to pitch himself out of jams.If he can keep his command and make just a slight adjustment or two, he'll be fine. I think part of it is he relies on his fastball too much. He's got a quality spliter but only throws it every 7 or 8 pitches.

That in itself has made him a lot more hittable the last three years or so......He does represent our University well so I hope he gets things straightened out in short order and the Sox make another run for a WS......

One bad outing can give you a bad ERA. The only stat that matters is % of save chances converted.

The DP error by Pedroia would have ended it. But, the official scorekeeper can never count a DP as something that would have happened so, it only counted as one out. So, all runs allowed after that should have been unearned but aren't.

He has pitched really well this year. And for all of the Sox fans that are waiting on Daniel Bard, you are nuts. Yeah, he's good but you see time and time again in a Sox/Yanks series how much better Paps is than him.

The only thing I dread for Paps is that his salary is (I think) around $10M this year. Bard was about $450k. That, combined with the age difference, will be a factor very soon and one that the GM and Owner will make soon if he's not 'perfect'
