@Waaaaaaaany so, what did you think of the City of Eugene? Cool College town? How about Autzen Stadium and the surroundings? Much of a tailgate scene? Did you stay right in Eugene? If yes, many hotel options?

Trying to get some intel as I am looking forward to a future trip to see us play in Eugene.
I'd say Eugene is a decent college town, it's a bit bigger than just a college town, but heavily influenced by the University. My free food and beer was not next to campus (and the stadium is probably a 1/2 mile walk off campus as well, a nice walk along paved trails through a park) so I didn't experience the college much, I did walk around in that area afterwards and it seemed pretty safe. As hard as it is to believe, classes didn't start til TODAY!!!! so there weren't many students around. The tailgating and parking is not like Beaver Stadium, It's a lot of smaller disjointed lots, most of them a school bus ride away. My buddy I met in Portland came down with his family and they parked in a lot in Eugene for $40 and took a bus. If you can, try to call the Eugene Science Center and see if you can get a pass for there. It's right across the street from the stadium, if it's not sold out with season passes they sell on game day for $40 or you can buy in advance for $80. There website has a date that they start selling individual game passes. I called and left a message a few days before and she called me back. They email you an invoice you pay online and they send the pass 2 weeks before the game. The bus lines were LONG after the game, and in many places, I suppose they drop off and pick up in various places depending on the lot you parked in (I think most of the lots are private businesses). Hotels are like State College on game day, jacked up to 3 times normal rate even for flea bag motels. I stayed in Salem where the rates were more reasonable (Holiday Inn was $612 total for three nights - even with Oregon State having a home game). It was an hour and 5 minutes to parking at the stadium, I arrived at about 12:15 for the 5 pm game and there weren't many people around. Hawaii team also stayed at the same hotel (I was told that the big hotel in Eugene had a fire over the winter and still wasn't open yet). For being 38 point underdogs, there was still a 6 am fire alarm pull at the hotel to wake up the Hawaii team. The stadium itself was really nice, they must give more butt room, as It looked rather large, but the attendance was only noted as about 52,000 and it looked pretty full.
I'd definitely go back, the city seemed safe and the fans pretty decent. I'd stay in Salem again as well, mostly because I'm a cheapskate and won't pay those outrageous hotel costs. I drive to/from Pittsburgh (2.5 hours) every game, so a little over and hour was not a big deal.

You can fly to Eugene, but you'll definitely have more options with Portland. (It's about 2.5 hours from Portland to Eugene)

Not sure if it is the water or different ingredients but NY bagels are the best and it is not even close. However, as it pertains to cheesesteaks Pat's and Geno's are good, but not the best. I've had some gourmet cheese steaks that would have you licking the plate.
I've been told by a supplier in that business that it is the water. He said that is the reason some business often have their products shipped in from outside locations and then baked on site.

For the record, my in laws are from Philadelphia and they don’t consider Amoroso rolls to be good. There are so many good bakeries in and around the Philadelphia area that are better. I joke that my wife only likes rolls that she can chip a tooth on, because it has to have that crispy outer crust for her to like it. She despises Primanti Bros because of the bread. My sons argree with her. None of them will go back there. The bakeries in Philly can’t be beat for rolls and bread.

A roll with a crispy outer crust is a baguette.

Primanti Bros. sandwich won the 'Coolest Thing Made in Pennsylvania' poll by the PA Chamber of Commerce. Jealous is not a good look for Philly folks...:).

So a Primanti Brothers sandwich is cooler than a Zippo lighter? Horse manure, which is one thing a Primanti Brothers sandwich can give a run for its money.

" A roll with a crispy outer crust is a baguette"

Well, just a crispy outer crust does not a baguette make.....

Plus I would characterize the crust of a true baguette....not the fodder that you buy at a grocery store....to be at the same time crispy, yet thick and chewy.

Which is why they are so sublime.

I make my own because actual good ones are hard to find.

No to the baguette. You’ve clearly never had a good Philadelphia roll.

Anyone from the late 60s remember Down Home Cheesesteaks on Beaver avenue? Great memories of those. I'm not sure if it was the same block as the Phyrst or not.

Jesus. I've had them everywhere in Philly; they're wonderful. But, I think you've never had a good baguette. I know some places....

No need to call me Jesus. Seriously though, baguettes aren’t the only roll/bread with a crispy exterior. There’s some fantastic Italian bread and rolls with similar crisp. My wife’s issue with Primanti’s is the thick, white soggy bread on all their sandwiches.

As far as Primanti Bros goes, who believes a trucker can drive while holding a sandwich, with fries and cole slaw, in the other?
How many truckers do you know? They rest it on their belly.

I really don't know what Pat's could have been expected to do. Even in neighborhoods that are not safe, are businesses required to hire private police forces to prevent crimes? Think what we have here is a lawyer trolling for a payout, whether it comes through shaking down the owner or hoping for a sympathetic jury (I'd like to hope that a judge would see through this and throw the case out before it gets that far).

The bread which primanti’s uses makes their sandwiches taste dry and bland. The other ingredients are really good, but the dry, tasteless bread ruins an otherwise pretty good sandwich.

Agree wholeheartedly on the bread. The roast beef usually tastes like it went through a tannery.
That’s why the fried egg is so popular on their sandwiches. It masks the dryness of the bread (coupled with fries which are already dry)

Who cares about a cheesesteak? Anybody can make one! Who makes the best pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwich? Best I ever had was at Pat’s Diner in Belmar, NJ!

Heard from a guy in the know that the franchise owner for the SC location wanted 51% of the profits when the verbally agreed upon percentage was 33%. Pat’s decided to pull out of the deal. They weren’t going to give away their “name” for less then was previously agreed.

Not really. Look at the betting odds to win it all. There are about as many CFB teams at say, 20 to 1 or better (+2000), as there are NFL.

Good data.

One of the arguments about why the NFL is "better" is that more teams have a chance to win it all.

While on paper that may be true because of things like salary cap, in reality....not so much.
