interesting timing. I used to have some good connections on what was happening at the PSAA, but that's no longer the case. So this move caught me by surprise.

Hearing that maybe the new Sr.VP of Development (Alyssa Wilcox) may have had a voice in this. Unconfirmed. However, she is an internal promotion, so she had no doubt worked closely with him during her time here. Oops. New hire from Purdue, not an internal promotion.
Clifford is now doing consulting work in the development field, apparently.

Good on her if this is true. The person in that role needs to have an engaging personality, and PC does not

I missed that. It was probably hidden in one of the many “Please send money” mailings.
I had missed it too, probably for the same reason. Last week I sent them a note asking what happened to the calendars this year. This was their reply:

Hello,

We are happy to hear that you enjoy the calendar. Due to the cost associated with production, shipping, and feedback we have received that people are no longer using print calendars, unfortunately the decision was made to scale back and we are no longer automatically sending them to all life members.

The Fall Sustaining Pride appeal sent out in late August included the opportunity to request a calendar. We would be happy to send you one if we have extras. If you could please confirm your mailing address.

Thank you for your membership!

I stopped caring about the Alumni Association when they stopped caring about the alumni. I believe that was around 2011-12.
That is when I called the AA and cut all ties. Still have no regrets.

Having met neither, judging just by their brief editorials in the magazine, the previous director, I believe Tina something, seemed to be a genuinely proud alumna, but PC seemed to be mercenary, taking the job for a few years until something better came along.

I remember being so pumped when I reached the age to buy the lifetime membership at the senior rate; these days I feel a lot less excited about it!

But you are still counted as a member in their totals of paying members. I pushed hard in 2013, but they said I am in for life. Hotel California

Did paul clifford take on a position at PSU that didn’t exist before? I thought Roger Williams had held the highest-ranking position in the alumni association until he reported to clifford.

Still waiting for my alumni association calendar. Guess eliminating that for life members is another cost cutting measure.
Yeah, always have mine hanging in my office and was wondering why we haven't rec'd 2025 yet!!

That's funny. They'll send you one "if we have extras". So then they did spend money on calendars but only for a select few?? Apparently the alumni at large aren't high enough on the ALUMNI Association totem pole to warrant getting a calendar. I paid my lifetime dues thirty years ago. About the only things I've gotten from the PSAA since then is an annual calendar and a magazine every two months. I'm sure the magazine will disappear soon too, or maybe the ad fees keep it alive. Honestly, I don't care about the calendar per se. It's the seeming lack of connection the PSAA has to the alumni. Something as insignificant as a calendar at least gives the illusion that the PSAA actually wants to engage with the people it's supposed to represent.

But the alumni center on campus sure looks nice though. I wonder how much they spend on that place.

The Fall Sustaining Pride appeal sent out in late August included the opportunity to request a calendar. Please watch for communication from us in August/September 2025 on how to order your calendar for 2026.
We do value you as a member and thank you for reaching out to us.
Thank for you being a Life-Time Member.

I am a 1969 graduate. They designate me as a Pioneer. I guess that means that if they surveying alumni members about the use of printed calendars, they don’t need to survey me.

Clifford was on the Obligatory PSU Pregame show this week previewing the Notre Dame game...weird timing, and I'm surprised he accepted the invite to be on it with his move in the works. Hoping they can add Landon Tengwall as a permanent member, and he's great every time he's on it (and his Cam Rising story this week made the hour of watching worth it).
