Just took a look at his career stats for the first time. My goodness. This guy had more yards and TDs in his first year at UW than his previous 4 years at Indiana COMBINED. Just goes to show you sometimes it's more about the players/coaches around the player than the actual player. What a great story.

Didn't he have each of his three years at Indiana cut short by injury?

I thought I remembered that being said during the semis.

But yes, he was a good player on a bad team, and found himself a good team.

Ah, yes. Forgot about that. Only played 1/2 the year for three years. Even with full years, wouldn't have came close to the years he's had at UW.

IN 2020, he had Indiana 4-0 before the 35-42 loss to Ohio State that year.

It certainly has to do with those factors and I would put coaching philosophy high on the list.

Did his draft stock just fall?
I’m no talent evaluator, but to me, he didn’t look good last night. Obviously the Mich D had a lot to do with that, but….. the Mich QB looked much better.

I thought the same thing. Penix didn’t look like the same guy that beat Texas.

I was wondering when I would get a 7.5” response. 😂

We knew a family years ago with the last name Penix. They, of course, opted for the short "e" pronunciation, but you just wanted to tell them "come on, everyone's thinking it, just embrace it."

I would doubt it just based on one game. UM has the #1 scoring defense in the nation. Penix certainly didn't look himself out there, but it's one game.
Yeah, one game doesn't erase how spectacular he's been the last 2 years. But my fear was seeing how they would perform against a legit D filled with future NFL players, vs P12 defenses. Even UT's D wasn't all that great this year.

The Michigan pass rush was on him all night. You don't look good if you are running for your life. Some people wondered why Rattler didn't look good in some games. This is exactly why. The Washington receivers often didn't have time to complete their routes. Night and day difference between the Texas rush. This is why an edge rusher and fast LBs is so important.

This. The guy took a terrible beat down. He showed courage to stay the course the way his ol was letting Michigan d beat up on him. On most plays the Michigan d was on him before he had time to look down field.

He never ran out of pocket. He never tried to gain first downs with his legs. He wasn't durable at all. When rushed he threw random balls into odd spots or INT's. It may not be popular, and the dude does have a whip for an arm, but any Pro scouts watching had to notice the panic that took hold by the third quarter. Michigan DL was whipping the OLine with only 4 down linemen. Often Olineman were falling backwards. The game was won in the trenches. We need to continue to strengthen OL and DL big time.

I agree. And that's why I'm more bullish on Beamer than most here. I'm not sure when we've had more talent on the OL than we will this year. I think our biggest issue on DL was lack of quality depth. The starters had to play a lot. Adding Jules, Goodwine, and Kennard in addition to the HS class is going to be a big help. I also suspect Luke Day will look like a better S&C coach when we're able to play more DL.
