All right, time for an old-timer to chime in. I can't fairly comment on players I never even saw play, so I am only offering my All Time Joe Paterno Penn State team.

QB - Kerry Collins
RB - Lydell Mitchell
RB - Ki-Jana Carter
TE - Ted Kwalick
WR - Bobby Engram
WR - Kenny Jackson
OL - Mike Munchak
OL - Keith Dorney
OL - Charley Getty
OL - Sean Farrell
Ol - Jeff Hartings

DE - Courtney Brown
DT - Mike Reid
DT - Bruce Clark
DE - Tamba Hali
LB - Dennis Onkotz
LB - Jack Ham
LB - Paul Pozluzsny
LB - Lavar Arrington
DB - Neal Smith
DB - Mark Robinson
DB - Darren Perry

NOTES:
1. Success in the NFL is irrelevant, IMO.
2. I used the 4-4-3 defense that Joe created, allowing for an extra LB rather than a DB.
3. I grouped OL as "the best 5" rather than as G-T-C.
4. Easy arguments can be made at RB for Warner and Cappy; at WR for Robinson and maybe even McDuffie; at TE for Brady; and at DB for several players over Perry.
5. So many great LBs have come through Linebacker U (hence, the reason Howard Cosell christened Penn State as such). Yet, how does one drop a 2-time AA and all-time LB leader in interceptions and punt returns like Onkotz? Or the consensus pick as a LB in 1970 like Ham, who also blocked more kicks than other LB? Or 2-time AA like Paul P and Lavar?

Let the furor begin.

I would take Shane Conlan over Lavar and it’s not even close.

Leaving warner onkontz Farrell off team is ridiculous. Jackson should be on first team. Blackledge definitely second team no question!!

Lavar was shane on steroids. Simply a freak and a man playing with boys. I love Shane as well. But lavar is an offensive coordinators worst night mare to plan against.

I think Pete Harris deserves some mention at S. IIRC he set or tied a school record for Int's in a season with 10. It's pretty unusual for a player to get 5 Ints in a season, let alone 10.

Greg Buttle was a great middle linebacker. He held the tackle record from 1975 til the Poz era. Buttle played like Dick Butkus, and was an All American award winner.

I always felt Blackledge was overrated. A good Qb, yes. Great? Ummmmm, no. Certainly not worthy of his first-round pick status (which I remember thinking when he was drafted). Fusina was a better QB than Blackledge. Agree with Collins as first team.

1st team all American qb. Top 5 heisman. Led the team in many areas for years and led team to a national championship. Yep overrated lol.

Well that settles it; your knowledge of football is seriously lacking. LA was an OC dream. Why? HE was a free lancer who was mostly out of position. Yes, he made some spectacular plays, but he also was responsible for some big plays because he DID NOT do his job.

Arrington did not play his senior year!! So maybe others think the same as I do.
Arrington received several honors during his college career, including the Chuck Bednarik Award, Dick Butkus Award, and Lambert Award in 1999. He was an All-Big-Ten selection, a first-team All-American in 1998, and a consensus first-team All-American in 1999. Arrington finished ninth in balloting for the 1999 Heisman Trophy.

TB was a very good College QB, he benefited greatly be having arguable the greatest PSU back ever in Warner, great O line and Kenny Jackson on the outside, I too would take Fusina over him, who by the way won the Maxwell award and finished runner up in the Heisman. Had PSU not gotten stuffed on the goal line against Bama, I believe Fusina would be considered the greatest QB there ever, 29-3 as a starter.

Agree.
As much as I love Franco, his pro career biases his college career reflection
Maybe I missed something in this thread but didn't we have a Heisman Trophy winner back in the 70s? A running back? Italian kid from Upper Darby? The guy that's never featured in the goofy Heisman House commercials. That guy.

Saquon was the greatest back i've seen at PSU, could only imagine if he had Warner's or Carter's OL

Mike Reid was as i stated before the greatest Defensive Player i've seen, a one man game changer.

The argument comes with weight training and conditioning now vs. then. Also the supporting cast you have. The linebackers having the trust in front or behind them , same goes for the QB, and RB's. having that extra second to throw, get open, or hold a block.

No Lenny Moore?
Refer to the 2nd sentence. I limited my selections to those who played for Joe as the HC. Otherwise, you are surely correct that Lenny Moore would be a first teamer, as Joe himself stated Moore was the best he ever coached.
