I’ll add a few stats, but the crazy spending increases at flagship state universities is the topic and Penn State features prominently.

The median increase across all state universities was an increase of 38% in spending versus an increase of 21% in enrollment. Penn State is had an increase of 36% in spending and 14% in enrollment. Only Idaho had both a decrease in enrollment and a decrease in spending.

In summary, we increased spending by more than double the rate in enrollment increases.

All data is 2002 to 2022.
