Pretty much mirrors the Directors Cup. Fairly certain we were top 10 just 5 years ago - well done Sandy

47th? Duke is 31st with a big far zero for football. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Speaking of mighty…Nebraska, at 61, got zero points for football AND basketball.

Oh, and Auburn got the same football score as PSU - 62.5.

How can we not get 110 in wrestling?

The WC slots are for the two most successful spectator sports. They don't say how they determine that. Is it based on attendance numbers to determine which spectator sports to use? That's my only guess as to why one of those is not wrestling because if one was wrestling it would be a perfect score.

I would guess that hockey has the highest attendance of wild card sports and then one of the following may be higher than wrestling? Rec hall is sold out every dual but it's not a large venue.

Baseball - Larger venue than Rec Hall
Softball - I don't know how big the softball venue is.
Volleyball - Rec Hall
Soccer - Jeffrey Field has more seating that Rec Hall (I think).
Gymnastics - Rec Hall (?)
Lacrosse - I don't know where they play. Jeffrey Field?
Wrestling - Rec Hall (sell out crowds every time).

IDK, I'm just trying to make sense of this because if we are talking about success then wrestling is the universities most successful sport by a wide margin. It's one of if not the most successful college sports team of the last 10-11 years.

Just wait until the field hockey upgrades are completed.

Throw even more money at the problem. Where else can PSU spend money? Sandy never got her swimming hole. Maybe Kraft will add a few more sports too.

Baseball is smaller than Rec Hall as is Jeffery field. 5400 vs 6500. Rec Hall is larger than Jeffery 5000 vs 6500. Lacrosse plays at Panzer which is 1300. Pegula is 5700. BJC is 15000

I am shocked, shocked I say, that no one has yet made mention of the fact that Sandy Barbour "WON A MAJOR AWARD!!"

Being able to display the Leg Lamp from the top of Beaver Stadium is far more valuable than any of the costs incurred.

Sandy bought the groceries and set the table. The coaches and players ruined the meal.

😞

I stand corrected then. I have no idea how one of their WC spots isn't wrestling, and if it is why it's not a 100. It doesn't make any sense.

EDIT - I went back and read exactly how they score their system and they goofed, plain and simple. They specifically state how football and basketball are weighted and scored. They even mention which particular sports were used for Michigan in the WC. WC1 is wrestling (Michigan finished 12-1 in dual meets and runner-up at the NCAA tournament) and WC2 is womens gymnastic (which finished third nationally). Their WC1 score was 90/100.

They specifically mention that a national champion in any sport besides football and basketball is awarded 100pts. Football is weighted 2.5 times higher and basketball is weighted 2.0 times higher than the WC. We went 17-0 in wrestling and won the national championship with our WC1 score of 64. Either they didn't use wrestling as a WC (how can they not) or they just goofed. My guess is they goofed and it has drastically altered the final ranking.

EDIT 2 - Adjusting for the missing 36pts PSU finishes 40th, right behind Rutgers with a score of 262.50.

But we deserve better.

Seriously, #47 sucks for PSU athletics given our history.

The same people who will complain about Penn State’s graceless fall in the Director’s Cup are likely the same people who Raul against having to fund 31 intercollegiate programs. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
