Why share this?

You have to remember that I’m dumb. 😞

I don’t have a Twitter account, but I became curious when I saw in Ryan’s post that there were two replies on Twitter. Stupidly, I was hoping for constructive replies there.

All of this does make me wonder about PSU’s perception in academic and athletic circles on a number of levels, not just that old faux scandal. I certainly would hope that an AD in contention would not be swayed by moronic dumbery on Twitter, if he or she even read it. That said, does the faux scandal affect how we are perceived by candidates for key positions?

PSU recently seems to like pursuing administrators from universities whose colors are red and black.

I’m typically very careful about what I say and how I say it. If I’m not quite sure about something, I’ll always put in a caveat. Take this to the bank: the faux scandal has zero impact on how we are perceived by candidates for key positions.

Agree. The faux scandal is now just fodder for haters. This is why we arm ourselves with piss balloons when engaging with the commonfolk from other Universities.

Well said, Ro.

There’s too much ugliness there for me. You can follow some really smart and knowledgeable people, but the downtweets completely ruin the experience. I have resisted signing up, which results in my feed getting cut off after reading one or two tweets. I know that this is to my benefit.
FYI - If you browse in private mode, you don’t have that issue.

I would hope so. Then, if PSU doesn’t get a top leader as the next AD, it’s just good old-fashioned incompetence or sabotage on the part of the decision makers. Possibly a bit of both. We’ve seen it at PSU before.

That’s not to say that there doesn’t exist the odd bad actor who will try to take advantage of the situation. But I don’t see the JS situation impacting the desirability of PSU as a destination institution. Concerning any other issues PSU might have vis a vis recruiting, I’m not the one to ask.

By height?
Yes, this. Measuring the candidates by their shoe size is very convenient but it’s too easy to cheat and the NCAA won’t do a blessed thing about it.

And this is the best they could come up with? 🤷‍♀️

Why not hire the Deputy AD from Ohio State? At least that way the AD could have some auto-influence inside the B1G.

This is like hiring a MAC-weenie. 🌭

The people running PSU aren’t interested in athletic success…with or without honor.

I don't understand. We already have our de facto AD. His name is James Franklin. He controls the 'purse' for all other sports programs. Hey, in this day and age of runaway inflation a certain degree of belt-tightening is mandatory. So why hire another paper shuffler when CJF can assume a 'dual hat' role. $70M should buy you as much.

Because if you think an AD is just a paper shuffler you have no clue.

I would suggest that if you did not see it, watch the video with TFrank and Nate on the AD, and what we need. They paint the problem PSU i(and many other schools are facing), and that is how many sports you can afford to operate. They point out that FB and MBB like most schools carry most of the load. Men's hockey also contributing - a little surprised wrestling and WVB are not there with men's hockey. Anyhow, they point out that the sports portfolio and funding are they keys. Also in the backdrop is the entire future of higher ed - declining student populations. The football program has been the front porch to university recruiting and fund raising. Maybe this could start changing.

so what do you want in an AD given this context? I would think if you are an up and coming AD, PSU would be an absolute prize job. AD will measure the job in terms of comp $$, budget handled and number of sports. PSU could be a very nice item on the resume.
