Per Rosebowl, Dennis Thames will commit to MSU

I'm guessing Chuck Rounsaville will come out with an article or post saying that Thames didn't have good footwork. Yancy will follow up that Thames didn't look good on the hoof at the UM camp a month ago. Also, we don't need any Buckles will be a bulldog posts from our Rebel friends. They'd rather be in Winston's top 3 than get a commit from Thames.

This is good news. Somehow Croom is withstanding the fierce power of the almighty IPF. Now, for a mini-thread jack, if anyone is in the Starkville, Louisville or general central-Miss. area tomorrow and wants to see an outstanding collection of HS talent, Louisville will be hosting a jamboree featuring Meridian High and South Panola at 6 p.m. Counting Thames, that'd be 3 MSU commits, an OM commit and several future NWCC standouts.

...considering the guy hasn't actually uttered the words "I'm committed to MSU." Still.... I hope he's right and I hope Thames takes care of his school work.

who put into an official column that we would go undefeated and win the national championship, and was 100 percent serious. He may lack in some areas, but balls isn't one of them.

What's his stats say? YPG? We don't need any more average all stars on the team. Can he run the spread?

...in throwing out a season W-L prediction that makes you look silly and saying you can count on a guy definitely committing and it not happening. Especially when following recruiting is what you do for a living.

I think he and Swindoll both learned something from the 20 Buckles will be a Bulldog! fiasco so hopefully (for MSU) he's solid enough in his sources to say Thames will commit.

Are you talking about a week and a half ago when he posted that and then said he was joking a few hours later? That's the only instance of Yancy saying anything along those lines as far as I know.

to watch the state's top prospect play Friday, Charles Woodson. Good Lord, they're really going to let his thirty something year old *** play high school kids?

One of the main recruiting gurus in the state, a guy whose only job is to monitor high school players and recruiting, actually refers to Olive Branch's safety as Charles Woodson?

you know, I'm a bit anal with my posts. I always check for spelling, and if I post a sports fact, you can either rest assured I know it or looked it up. I try not to go in half-cocked. And that's only because I'm a huge dork about sports. But this guy, he does this for a living. His posts are unreadable. NAFOOM has a thread a day belittling his writing, and it's not just the sheepy spin they're talking. He's just a piss-poor writer. When you combine that with his giant douche personna, you get the guy who makes Gene Swindoll look credible.

...He actually posted recently in regards to the QB from TX named Drew Allen they were recruiting that he talked with the family every day. EVERY DAY. And it troubled him that they cut off communication with him just before his commitment to OU.

What kind of a guy calls a recruit's house every damn day? Seriously? Hell, they probably thought he was stalking them.

I know a guy who writes for a living and has had multiple run-ins with Yancy on high school sidelines. His shortcomings extend past the spell-checker and right into real life. It really makes one wonder about the qualifications for that job.

from Thames about his commitment. It is getting pretty ridiculous how people are speaking for him on the recruiting sites.</p>

Yea, that was a couple of weeks back. Clayton Moore apparently told one of Yancy's sources that Thames had committed to MSU. Word gets to Yancy, and he posts it all over his board. Only after Yancy has posted it all over his site does he think to call Moore to ask him about it, and Moore starts laughing at him saying he made the commitment up as a joke just to see what would happen.

I thought that was great on Moore's part. You've got to think Moore probably thinks it's sad how much guys like Yancy and his kind get up and down about recruiting, so he decides to play with them just for fun. Moore went up a few notches on my list with that move.

Thames may end up at MSU. He may end up at Ole Miss. It seems to me though that he's going to be this year's Robert Elliott, and he's going to probably play both Steve and Yancy until the very end. In a perfect world, he'd have them both writing stories about how he was a lock for their school, and then he'd wait until signing day to announce for Alabama. Should be fun to watch though. I'm betting on a war of stories in the very near future.

MSU wasn't even Buckles' second choice.

he never once said that Buckles had told him he would commit to MSU. He always posted that Buckles told him he was undecided, but that in Gene's heart he thought that Buckles would be a Bulldog. Apparently, Gene's heart was telling him what he wanted to hear.

Now he's not saying he'll commit, just that he'll end up signing with MSU when all is said and done. That's not nearly as interesting, but it's a hell of a lot more important.

How is Thames recruiting similar to Robert Elliot? Elliot was committed to Ole Miss for a year and changed his mind 2 weeks before signing day. As far as I know Thames hasn't committed to anyone yet regardless what anyone else says. You say that Elliot played both sides but yet he told the truth to Rosebowl and Gene? Sounds like to me he just played Yancy's ***. Of course, with all the ******** Yancy has been spouting this year, who's to say Yancy didn't just make that **** up to please the masses after telling them that Elliot was signing with Ole Miss. Kinda like Thames and Moore are a package deal?

1. Pat Patterson's commitment isn't solid and UM is clearly in the picture. (I would like someone to let me know the last Noxubee County player to go to Ole Miss.)

2. Josh Boyd was never offered by Ole Miss. (Yet nearly every BCS school in the southeast and Michigan offered him.)

3. Ole Miss got a commitment from the quarterback from Mississippi "with the most offers." (Yet UM was the only one from Mississippi to offer him.)

4. Montez Phillips will be a Rebel. (This one is up in the air, but 3 different recruiting services say otherwise.)

5. Fletcher Cox's scholarship offer was a 1 year offer from MSU and UM's was a 4-year offer. Cox was said to be switching to UM or seriously considering it. (I don't believe UM is very strong in Yazoo City recruiting and also Cox is probably MSU's second strongest recruiter for other players besides Russell.)

6. The Clayton Moore commitment will make other players from Mississippi take note and follow him. (So far, no one has followed. It also seems to me, if you read other Mississippi players quotes about Mississippi QB's, it's usually Tyler Russell they mention.)

7. Bumphis has been spotted with Justin Bean at the Ole Miss scrimage. (Bumphis will be a Dawg or a Bammer.)

8. John Cohen wrecked the Kentucky program by giving full scholarships. Wait and see. (Doubtful. The only thing that will wreck that program is Cohen no longer being the head coach there.)

9. Ole Miss will get any high school baseball player from Mississippi that they want, unless MSU offers more scholarship money. (I think Yancy has been called out enough on that one.)

10. Forgot this one from Chuck Roundsville(sp) about Gabriel Jackson. Jackson doesn't have good footwork and UM didn't seriously pursue Gabriel. (I'm sorry, but the spirit board has stayed up in arms the past few years about getting offensive tackles. They have one with some pretty good potential, and they supposively don't offer him. My God.

This is the **** they spew on that website. Call me a sheep, I don't give a 17. You never read any **** like from Robertson. You rarely even see a post from swindoll unless it's about his practive report video or some comment like, "no."

I'm just saying he learned something from that situation about attempting to maintain himself as a credible media source. And as such surely Robertson knows what he's talking about with Thames.

But the fallacy of both the Scout and Rivals networks is that the guys who run each site are, in their heart-of-hearts, fans of their schools first. Emotion can never be taken fully out of their journalism.

Let me clarify then. When I say he'll be this year's Elliott, it's because I can forsee him being the subject of a lot of article wars. Elliott was constantly the subject of article wars from both sites. One side would post an article about him with positive information for their side. Then the other would follow with another article with positive information with their side. I could see this one playing out the same way with a lot of articles whether he commits or not.

I really don't like Yancy's stuff myself. I think he interjects way too much opinion rather than just reporting. I much prefer the way Neal handles things. However, I still enjoy watching the back and forth between sites when they get contested head to head over recruits.

1. That is correct. Have you heard of Titus Brown, Charlie Perkins and Nate Wayne?

2. I dunno.

3. Apparently it was a true statement, though I wonder.

4. Probably correct.

5. I thought the offer was the other way around. Either way, I expect him at MSU.

6. Still possible.

7. I dunno.

8. Time will tell.

9. I don't buy that, but MSU has offered some more money recently....so it does affect it. With the new rules, it's going to be hard to keep doing that.
