Perhaps it’s just me but there doesn’t seem to be much Board enthusiasm ..

In actually attending PSU’s upcoming Rose Bowl appearance.

Shouldn’t there be multiple threads filled with fan enthusiasm about attending…inquiring about where to sit, where to stay?

And yet there are none.

Why the seeming fan disinterest in actually attending?🤷🏼‍♂️

General economic uncertainty?

Cost (probable PSU loss) vs Benefit (possible PSU victory) relative to associated expense?

I don’t think it’s considered “proper form” to link unreadable premium content from another board on this rather frugal site.

I do commend you for your efforts, however. 🙄
If you can afford to attend the Rose Bowl, you can certainly afford the pay site which has much more talk about travel plans and pricing. But keep gaslighting for attention if it gets you off.

I think it's going to be a good game. Utah is no pushover as USC found out. I took off from work on 1/2 and 1/3 so I could enjoy the game. I'm excited. Regardless of how we got in, it's still an honor to play in the Rose Bowl. If we win it will put the stamp on a very good season. WE ARE!!

It’s likely a mix of things. Cost is a huge issue. I just looked up from central PA (Harrisburg) to LA airfare is $850 (if you like 19 hour trips one way) to $1100 per ticket. Then I hear Rose Bowl tickets are going for around $200 each (true?). For a family of 4 you’re looking at $5200 and you haven’t even added in lodging/ meals etc yet. A lot of people just aren’t spending that kind of money now. To top of off, LA doesn’t exactly have the best reputation lately.

Personally I think the game depends on how many decides to sit out. So far it’s JPJ & most likely PW. Utah is a really good team so we can’t afford to lose starters.

Was there in 94 and 08 and we like to go new places. Mrs BB’s PSU roommate and my PSU roommate were in the LA arebefore so we had that added benefit. No longer are.
Heading to Iceland 1/7.
Excited for the team and game tho. I think ir will be highly watched, good for recruiting and a good competitive game.

Eh, I went to the Cotton Bowl and had a great time not too long ago. Franklin's track record in bowl games isn't the best. Beyond that, my rooting interest is to see Allar play in the game (which clearly isn't a given) much like gritty gutty Trace McSorley did in replacing Hack years ago. That got my attention. I've turned the page and look forward to 2023 tbh.

Please post pics from Iceland please when you get back, if you're willing to share (and give recommendations of places to go). It's on my list of places to travel to.

So, if I have this right, a 3rd place finish in the B1G and a potential 10-3 season is cause for celebration? How far have the mighty fallen....?

If I had the money I'd go. A friend of mine lives in LA and is going to the game. I am getting married in a year so there is no budget for a trip to California from Pa.

Made 3 trips around the globe this year already. I would like to take my entire family(5 of us). However, after looking at the prices of the 3 or 4 night trip I would just rather spend the money on a trip to somewhere that would be longer and have more things to do. I have been pricing things out and living on the east coast I can fly to Europe cheaper than I can fly places in the US. Been to LA already in this lifetime and want to go other places.

I was at the Cotton Bowl game, the Arkansas game last year was my 17th bowl game. I like James but his record speaks for itself. 2-17 against top 10 teams is atrocious, Utah is 8th.
Sean’s a great kid, he just not a great QB. I to want Allar to play this game. He might not win it either. It will show him the things he needs to work on going forward though.

IMHO people may be waiting to see which players opt out and/or what coaches leave. If you recall last year, all be it
Was a lesser bowl, there were many players who opted out. Especially on defense. I know many of us felt we were going to lose to Arkansas going into that game. But what do I know.

I am very excited. My wife and I will be going. It's a bucket list thing for us. We have been waiting for Penn State to make it back, and here we are. Booked my own flights Sunday afternoon through Expedia. $800 each, direct from/to Newark. Went with Al Brooks Rose Bowl tours for a 3 night experience. $1670 each. Yes it's expensive, but so is good bourbon, and I've been known to consume some of that also!

Too far and costly to go to for me, plus I have been to the Rose Bowl before, years ago. I went to last years bowl game in warm, sunny Tampa, but it was only an hour drive for me.

We need to start winning bowls again regardless of which bowls they are. JoPa was 24-12-1 in bowls, so 2 out of every 3. I was fortunate to attend 2 of them that we won. The Cotton Bowl in 75 and Fiesta win over Miami in 87. If you go to a bowl win it !

That’s a wonderful sentiment. Now, go tell the ME, ME, ME kids to play.
A FRESHMAN offensive lineman just made business decision to enter the portal. WTF is that?

Question...they keep saying that this Rose Bowl will be the last in this format. I am confused...but what's new. Didn't the Rose Bowl just agree to join the new 12 team Play Off, which will start in 2024? Where did 2023 go? Shouldn't the next Rose Bowl be the last in this format?

To be honest the 9K that it would cost us to go is a big part. Also been there, the stadium is a dump with terrible seating and the view from my couch with replays is much better.

Game will likely be televised. No need to travel so far to fight crowds and risk viral contamination to see a game that even some players don’t feel is worth their while.

"Probable loss" in your anti everything PSU mind perhaps- you really need to find a team to root for- or a different one to root against- as long as it gets you to just go away

Next season the Rose is part of the 4 team playoff. The year after and going forward it will be part of the 12 team playoff. Agreement from the Rose Bowl was the final domino for the 12 team playoff to happen. This season it's still able to get the traditional Big 10 vs. PAC 12 matchup that it's historically had, and it will be the last time that happens, pending future changes to the playoff format.

Neither Tom or you genuinely appreciate the board activity I generate. I might be the poster keeping this board alive.

I went in 94. I’ll never forget Kijana breaking that touchdown run against the Ducks and the look on the faces of the Oregon fans when he did it. One of the fans said at the time that these guys are pretty good. They were never expecting that Penn State would be so tough. It silenced all their quack noises. The other highlight was at the Rose parade seeing the PSU helmet in stark white carnations moving down Colorado Ave lead by the Blue Band and cheerleaders in contrast to all the other colorful floats. With our fans lining the street shouting “we are” - it was a great scene and one I’ll always remember. I’m too old to go again now, but go if you can and enjoy it. And Beat the Utes!
