Perhaps it’s just me but there doesn’t seem to be much Board enthusiasm ..

Fly to LA for a not-so-meaningful bowl game? No.

I haven't been able to afford a freakin' steak for nearly two years, but I'm going to LA? Haha!

Next season the Rose is part of the 4 team playoff. The year after and going forward it will be part of the 12 team playoff. Agreement from the Rose Bowl was the final domino for the 12 team playoff to happen. This season it's still able to get the traditional Big 10 vs. PAC 12 matchup that it's historically had, and it will be the last time that happens, pending future changes to the playoff format.
OK..gotcha...Thanks.

I went in 94. I’ll never forget Kijana breaking that touchdown run against the Ducks and the look on the faces of the Oregon fans when he did it. One of the fans said at the time that these guys are pretty good. They were never expecting that Penn State would be so tough. It silenced all their quack noises. The other highlight was at the Rose parade seeing the PSU helmet in stark white carnations moving down Colorado Ave lead by the Blue Band and cheerleaders in contrast to all the other colorful floats. With our fans lining the street shouting “we are” - it was a great scene and one I’ll always remember. I’m too old to go again now, but go if you can and enjoy it. And Beat the Utes!
We grabbed some extra bread from our lunch along Colorado. We walked to the stadium and and every time we heard the Duck fans quacking, we tossed bread at their feet. Even they got a kick out of it.

i have friends who flew to the ‘94 Rose from Portland. They said the flight down was pretty unbearable with the duck calls and such. The flight back was more pleasant.

If you have the ability and are thinking of going, PLEASE go. Especially if you are young and don't have too many obligations. Don't let the cost deter you if it's not too much. I can't go this year but was there for the 2005 season game against USC Pete Carroll, Sanchez et al, and the 2016 season Barkley & Co. USC game. Both tremendous experiences. Ran into and met so many great PSU fans young and old alike from all over. 2005 was a picture perfect day in Pasadena. The game was a debacle but $9 pounders sold at the stadium helped us get through it. Weather was not as nice for the 2016 game but just as memorable for the emotion of the game.

This thread is a perfect example of why the first round and the quarters of the new 12 team playoff should be played at the highest seed’s stadium, or a stadium of their choosing.

2024 and 2025 contractually will be first round only. 2026 and beyond, there is increasing steam to have the quarterfinals also played at the higher seed’s Home Stadium or stadium of their choosing. Let’s hope it happens. The Bowls can keep the semi-finals and final.

Never gone to a bowl game and probably not going to start now. I would rather just chill on my couch and watch from there.

Made 3 trips around the globe this year already. I would like to take my entire family(5 of us). However, after looking at the prices of the 3 or 4 night trip I would just rather spend the money on a trip to somewhere that would be longer and have more things to do. I have been pricing things out and living on the east coast I can fly to Europe cheaper than I can fly places in the US. Been to LA already in this lifetime and want to go other places.
One of the reasons we gave up our season tickets about 10 years ago....

Please post pics from Iceland please when you get back, if you're willing to share (and give recommendations of places to go). It's on my list of places to travel to.
Will do. 2/3 of our tailgating group is going so PSU will be well represented.

Yes it was a special trip. One of my fondest memories was pre game in the men’s room. Taking a leak as Oregon fan starts talking trash about how they’re going to crush us. Not much more than 15 minutes late, Kijana takes it to the house running right toward our seats. Never looked back. Damn that Tom Osborn sympathy vote!

As some others have stated, It's a ways off yet. Now there are large groups of players sitting out bowl games to prepare for the NFL draft. The playoffs have taken much of the bowl game excitement. Yes I will watch and cheer like crazy but, imagine the difference if PSU was in the playoffs this year. This board would be jumping....

Penn State's fifth Rose Bowl appearance in 100 years. It's a sad state of affairs when it's not considered exciting anymore. And that's not a dig at anybody on this board. I understand completely.

But playoffs be damned, I'm still excited.

I think it's going to be a good game. Utah is no pushover as USC found out. I took off from work on 1/2 and 1/3 so I could enjoy the game. I'm excited. Regardless of how we got in, it's still an honor to play in the Rose Bowl. If we win it will put the stamp on a very good season. WE ARE!!
Agree with you......we are 10-2......both loses are to CFP participants. These extra practice sessions are great for our young guys and i am expecting PSU to play great and WIN!

I was at the Cotton Bowl game, the Arkansas game last year was my 17th bowl game. I like James but his record speaks for itself. 2-17 against top 10 teams is atrocious, Utah is 8th.
Sean’s a great kid, he just not a great QB. I to want Allar to play this game. He might not win it either. It will show him the things he needs to work on going forward though.
I expect Cliff to start and play.....but if Allar doesn't get meaningful minutes then i know the reason we have failed against good teams.

The lack of enthusiasm, to me, is because of several reasons:
1. Too many bowl games compared to seasons like 1987.
2. A New Year's Day Bowl was something to look forward to because that was the highpoint of the bowl season, period. By the end of the night, you pretty much knew who would be number 1.
3. The networks got greedy with the play-off system and now we have "games" beyond New Year's Day and the same teams, (pretty much) in the pay-offs every year, which really kills the buzz nationally for the average college football fan.
