Though not the result you wanted IMHO should have had, but you had a great team this year. If I were betting, I would bet that you'll be right back in the hunt next season.
Cheers!

I guess I could have just went with read and been done with it.We had a great run and we blew it. Two truths that don’t contradict each other.
Also, nice of you to put “hear” in quotation marks. Appreciated.![]()
We had a really good season and we didn't win. I am not going to say we blew it. We had a couple of opportunities to win that game and we didn't take advantage of them. ND had a couple, as well, and they we able to take advantage. We had a great run and we blew it. Two truths that don’t contradict each other.

As could be said of every team but the one that finally wins it. Tough to lose last night. There are many teams that did not get to where PSU did. Fans of every team that loses always think their team blew it. Never is a long time.Perhaps they did to some, but in reality, they blew it. They'll never have an easier path to a NC than this year. If, when they are in the playoffs again, I seriously doubt they will be able to win 3 big games in a row and thus are destined to lose their last game every playoff season.
`Thank you Mister Obvious but that wasn't my point. I was speaking of PSU blowing this golden opportunity. To me they were the better team and should have won and gone on to the Finals. After they fix this ill-advised playoff ranking system, I don't foresee us being in the Finals any time soon if ever. I just hate the thought of watching my team their last game every year.As could be said of every team but the one that finally wins it. Tough to lose last night. Why? They‘re going to make the playoffs regularly.`Thank you Mister Obvious but that wasn't my point. I was speaking of PSU blowing this golden opportunity. And LOSE regularly. Did you even read my last sentence? That's why. Why? They‘re going to make the playoffs regularly.

The very best non-PSU poster! Thanks - you are always classy. Unfortunately, it just feels like the SOS. Heck we almost lost to the boat-rower.Though not the result you wanted IMHO should have had, but you had a great team this year. If I were betting, I would bet that you'll be right back in the hunt next season.

You’re emotional and overreacting. And LOSE regularly. Did you even read my last sentence? That's why.
There has to be charity work this person can do on Saturdays between August and January. What a benefit to his community s/he will be!Why bother then? Why give PSU Football any of your energy if you've already predetermined that they're going to lose? Seems silly to feel that way and continue to be a fan of the program. Lots of programs out there will happily take you on their bandwagon.
Easier path to an NC? They would have to beat ND and OSU to win. Who, by the way, were #1 and # 2 in pass defense. They make good QBs look average. With less than elite WR, Drew (any QB, Ewers,Gabriel) would (did) have a very difficult time. Oh yeah, Texas and Oregon did have elite receivers.Perhaps they did to some, but in reality, they blew it. They'll never have an easier path to a NC than this year. ND’s defensive passing stats were aided significantly by playing Army and Navy.Easier path to an NC? They would have to beat ND and OSU to win. Who, by the way, were #1 and # 2 in pass defense. That’s a good point, however, they blitzed well and covered well. Yeah, they grab and such, but all teams (including us) do.ND’s defensive passing stats were aided significantly by playing Army and Navy.
And, I believe like the ncaa basketball tourney, the deeper into the CFP you go, the fewer penalties get called in the name of “let the players decide the outcome”.That’s a good point, however, they blitzed well and covered well. Yeah, they grab and such, but all teams (including us) do.
Like offensive holding, you could call PI or D-holding on almost any play. Football is evolving like basketball; penalties and violations that we played to are no longer penalties or violations. No “steps” or “palming” in basketball…. no holding, minimal or questionable PI in football!
True!! However, they have to be consistent for both sides. And, I believe like the ncaa basketball tourney, the deeper into the CFP you go, the fewer penalties get called in the name of “let the players decide the outcome”.
Then it's good you're not betting.Though not the result you wanted IMHO should have had, but you had a great team this year. If I were betting, I would bet that you'll be right back in the hunt next season.

Glass half empty all the time?Perhaps they did to some, but in reality, they blew it. They'll never have an easier path to a NC than this year. Just curious. Are you a Philly fan also?`Thank you Mister Obvious but that wasn't my point. I was speaking of PSU blowing this golden opportunity. That's funny that you don't understand. I had a friend in high school (almost 60 years ago) who was a huge Chicago Cubs fan. When you understand why he rooted for them for decades (he was a true fanatic) knowing for almost a certainty they were never going to win it all then you may understand the "why" you ask of me. Been a "true fanatic myself" for PSU since the 50's, following my dad's lead, he was an alum and a fanatic too. It's funny you think I should have the same opinion as you. The only silly thing is your post. Why bother then? Why give PSU Football any of your energy if you've already predetermined that they're going to lose? Seems silly to feel that way and continue to be a fan of the program. Lots of programs out there will happily take you on their bandwagon.
Winning a NC is never easy, but it's peculiar that you ignored their 1st two games (SMU and BS) in your argument. So convenient to eliminate facts contrary to your side of the discussion. Don't worry though, there are scads of posters in here who do the same thing. PSU's path to the NC this year couldn't have been easier.Easier path to an NC? They would have to beat ND and OSU to win. Gaslight much? A common tactic of those who lost the argument. Emotional and overreacting, that's rich. lolYou’re emotional and overreacting.
That' an odd question considering the gist of this thread, but to answer your query I like the Eagles because my daughter lives there and roots for them. If you mean baseball, the answer is no, I do not follow MLB, not one little bit.Just curious. Are you a Philly fan also?
That's a nonsensical deduction to assume from my post which was fact based. It's illogical to call it pessimistic or optimistic for that matter. But I am considering the source too ...Glass half empty all the time?
We handled their blitz exceedingly well…and still failed. That’s a good point, however, they blitzed well and covered well. Yeah, they grab and such, but all teams (including us) do.

Philly fans generally have a nonstop glass half empty outlook on their teams. Sometimes it penetrates here too. That' an odd question considering the gist of this thread, but to answer your query I like the Eagles because my daughter lives there and roots for them. Thanks for the info but it has nothing to do with me.Philly fans are generally have a nonstop glass half empty outlook on their teams. Sometimes it penetrates here too.
“Facts”Facts:
1. We blew it, we were the better team.
2.Name an easier path. You can't there isn't one.
3.You actually believe we can win 3 big games in a row? Wow.
4. You're no good at this, stop while you're 10 miles behind.
Thanks for the info but it has nothing to do with me.
I grew up a Cubs fan - lives just North lf the City and went to hundreds of Cubs games and knew full well they would lose most but still they were my team. That's funny that you don't understand. For fans of silver linings….
So, in the previous playoff format and B1G setup, we still had to win several big games to get to the national championship game. For us to get into the playoff, we had to essentially beat beat OSU or UM (maybe even both in certain years), and hope no one else had a better record in the division, then win the division so that we could get into the B1G championship game, win the championship game, and then win the semifinal in the CFP. Granted not all of those wins are in a row, but that was still a lot of big wins. Now, we can still get into the CFP without even playing some of those teams, and there is still a little more room for error. If we have a dominant season, it is still possible to have a decent path in the future.Perhaps they did to some, but in reality, they blew it. They'll never have an easier path to a NC than this year.
