I wasn't following the program then, but they were in worse shape than now. Who knows maybe Kotelnicki is a Paterno Type waiting in the wings.

Rip Engle also had to teach phys ed classes. Imagine a head football coach doing that today.

Trivia: Rip Engle codified the rules for Angleball when he was at Brown.

And Rip never had a losing season while at Penn State (worst record was his last year, 5-5).

And I bet Rip and Joe would both tell you that Franklin’s job in the current college sports environment is much more difficult than theirs was.

His best record was 1 loss in the regular season in 1962. That is better than any Franklin team so far. Just sayin.

Coach Engle was a Gem of a Person. Good Friend of my Parents. I have a photograph when I was a little kid from Cape Cod when I was ready to climb aboard his sailboat. Such a Class Act of a Man.
