Not saying things are fine. Not saying things are bad. Just looking at past starts and end results.

The regular season is about two things:

1) Winning a SEC Title
2) Building a National Seed Resume

We’re 1 LBSU win away from being on pace for #2. Obviously, #1 hasn’t started yet. We need to make up that 1 win in the upcoming USM - @ Tulane - TT stretch.

Tulane beat the **** out of SPS favorite, La Tech, today. They took two in Ruston. Winning that series will be tough.

I don't think winning an SEC title is that relevant the purpose is to get in one of the top seeds for omaha.

Who did we start with last year?

Texas, Texas Tech, TCU? (or one of them)
But, I'm not concerned with where we are going.

The regular season in general is kinda overrated. Yeah you’d prefer to be playing Regionals and Supers at Dudy Noble and that’s an elite home field advantage in the postseason, but there are 2 and 3 seeds in Omaha pretty much every single year, including us in a few of our trips. And we’ve also been eliminated on our home field several times.

It’s all about who is playing the best in June, what seed you are is somewhat irrelevant. As long you don’t screw around and miss the tourney outright, any team with talent can get hot and win on the road in the postseason.

I am a fan that will watch almost every one of our games, but I also try not to get too worked up over the ebbs and flows of the season as long as we are safely in the field. I want to host as a high national seed every year, but if you told me we were the 2 seed in Atlanta or Fort Worth I’d still think we have every chance to make a deep Omaha run.

For a better perspective, look how the past 15 years national champions started out their next year.

Don't kid yourself. If you want to play in the CWS, you'd better be a #1 seed. 75% of CWS participants since 1999 were #1 seeds. That said, 2 weekends in February are pretty meaningless.

I do think it’s generally better to host than to not. But you’re also talking about a tournament where the #1 overall seed hasn’t won the whole thing in this century and hasn’t even made it to Omaha since 2018. It’s a total crap shoot when you get to the postseason. I’m sure the higher seeds win more often than not, but you usually see at least one or two 2 or 3 seeds in Omaha every year. I think you’d rather host but you’re certainly not screwed if you don’t.

You're not totally screwed if you're not a 1 seed. But your path to Omaha is a lot harder if you're not. #1 seed has a 38% chance of making it to Omaha. #2 seed only an 8% chance, and #3 a 4% chance. You definitely want that #1 seed.

How much higher would that #1 seed percentage be if not for ole miss crapping the bed so many times?
