Doesn't he still do Sports Talk? I remember listening to him on the radio in 1977. He must be pushing towards 80. So who knows for sure?

Who was the guy that had a sports talk show from Columbia back in 1989?

When I was at Carolina in the mid 80's, I used to listen to Phil on the radio in the late evening. My favorite thing was his recruiting news letter that I used to pick up at the Capitol News Stand. It was great recruiting news letter for the time.

Definitely not I his 80s, probably in his 60s. I enjoyed him, until Clemson became so successful…and he got on their bandwagon. I think he was actually a graduate of USC or one of the branches.

OK. If not pushing "toward" 80, pushing "toward" 70. Being that I heard him in 1977, he would have been at LEAST 22 back then. So, that would make him at least 68.

I'm talking about the year that I called the show when Williams was host looking for 2 tickets to the 1989 West Virginia game at WV. Todd Ellis was QB back then. Someone called our number and we got 2 tickets on the 40, long ride. We got beat 45-21

I know Phil. Everybody knows he is a Carolina grad AND fan. He tries his best to be objective. Not a homer. Recognizes and wants the Sports Talk to be for everyone

On behalf of all 69-70 year olds ( that describes me) hush yo mouth
 I believe 2/3 of people in that age group are retired. 1/3 are still going at it (nothing wrong with that).

Whether or nor to retire can be a tough decision for some. I know a man who, I feel sure, would NEVER have retired. But he became ill with pulmonary fibrosis at age 70 and had to retire. He passed last year at age 77. I saw his son about a month ago and asked him if his Dad regretted not retiring earlier. He said, Oh yes. His Dad told him, towards the end, there were so many more things he could have done and gone to, had he retired sooner. In his last year, he wanted to go with his boys to see the Grand Canyon. But, physically he could not do it. That made me sad to hear. Coincidently, a big Gamecock fan, a friend of mine, died at age 70 a couple of weeks ago on the morning we played Clemson. The future is not guaranteed.

Like I said, retirement can be a tough decision for some. Like any other changes in life, a "new normal" can take up to a year to adjust. But adjusting is very doable.
