Pippen: MJ was the best SCORER, but Lebron may be the best PLAYER EVAR

Let me make my point very simply. I don't think MJ could put on the defensive clamps on such an offensively explosive player, D. Rose, like the way Lebron did.

Everyone forgets that Pippen was HORRENDOUS foul call away from getting the Bulls to the Finals while MJ was away playing baseball.

But I disagree with him that LBJ is better than MJ.

Jordan in his prime would have shutdown Derrick Rose. The other thing is - I wonder if Lebron could have shut down a player like Derrick Rose last year while he played for Cleveland. Lebron right now has a luxury of 2 other All-Stars who proved themselves before joining forces. Pippen never proved himself w/o Jordan. Lebron doesn't have to carry his team like he did in Cleveland. He can play a totally different game this year. Jordan had to carry the Bulls.

Overexaggerate everything and then bring in items into an argument that have absolutely nothing to do with the argument. So what if Marino kissed a dude? I mean that's pretty messed up, but what bearing does that have on how good a football player he was. Who cares if Pippen is broke? So what you're saying is Tyson wasn't the best at one point cause he has no money now? And yes Jordan had a supporting cast. Pippen is a hall of famer. Rodman is a hall of famer and arguably one ofthe best rebounders ever. That's two more than than James ever had in Cleveland. Do people seriously fault Lebron for not winning a championship in Cleveland?

Wade had Shaq. Pretty nice sidekick there.

And back to the original point if this post, James' antics preseason hold no bearing on him as a basketball player. As a person? Yes. But Jordan was a dick too.

By the way I think at this point Jordan is the greatest, my whole point is the rings argument is not completely accurate.

If it wasn't for Michael Jordan my response to these comments would be......Who the hell is Scottie Pippen?

I think what Pippen is getting at is that Lebron has everything Jordan had as far as skillset, but he has it on an even bigger/stronger body, so he has physical tools that allow him to overpower players more than Jordan ever could.

People keep forgetting the Lebron is still only 26. Jordan was just starting to come into his own at 26. Jordan won all 6 of his titles between ages 28 and 36.

Lebron is still developing his game, and he's showing flashes of being that great.

Jordan scored 63 in the playoffs against the Celtics his second year in the NBA. His third year he averaged 37ppg. LeBron has not done jack **** that Charles Barkley or Karl Malone didn't do. LeBron will never have the heart that Jordan had.

If youhave two equal teams and I have a choice of Jordan or LeBron. I will take Jordan every time and give you LeBron and I know just who would come out on top.

just like u knew the lakers would win the title and the bulls would put the heat out in 5?

Pippen proved himself w/o Jordan by taking the Bulls to the playoffs without him in the 94(?) season. They were one of the greatest teams of all time with MJ. But they were still a playoff team without him.

but whatever you say. No, Marino kissing a man, and Pippen going broke have no bearing on the argument. They were just jabs at an attempt to be funny. Pippen is a hall of famer because he played with Michael Jordan. My point in the Pippen jab is that Jordan made him a millionare.I doubt we would have ever heard of Scottie Pippen if it weren't for Michael Jordan. I don't fault Lebron for not winning one in Cleveland, but if you don't think this Heat team has 3 times the talent of Jordan's Bulls' teams, I don't know what to tell you. I can understand where you're coming from on the rings argument, but again, we're not talking about 1 or 2, we're talking about 6.

And I do believe James' antics have bearing on him as a player. If you're teamates can't stand you and don't respect you on the floor, it will have a signifigant impact on your legacy as a player. Jordan's teammates may not have liked him, but they feared and respected him.

Anyway, we're going to get to find out in the next 10 years barring a horrific injury.
Maybe it's just me, but to say that rings are irrelevant to the argument of greatest player, you might want to let about every sports writer and professional athlete in on that secret. I'm pretty sure it'sfairly important to them and leaving their legacy. The one's that are worth a **** anyway.

How about this, if it weren't for Michale Jordan, there would be no Lebron James. Jordan changed the way the game of basketball is played. He was the best player on th ecourt everytime he stepped out there. I don't think that way about Lebron. There are plenty of nights he isn't the best player on his team. I would argue Kobe is better than Lebron at this point, and in 6 years who knows if anyone will be able to hold Kevin Durant's jock strap. Lebron can be stopped and Michale Jordan couldn't. That's why Jordan has 6 rings, and Lebron had to go find the New York Yankees of the NBA to try and get one so he doesn't go down as the best player in NBA history to never win a ring. If rings aren't important or relevant to the argument, why does it seem to bother the best in the world when they don't get them?

You don't think Jordan would have shut D-Rose down in a Conference Finals series? The greatest playoff player to step foot on the court would have shut him down just as much as LeBron if not more.

Since you are the only person ever who is trying to downgrade Jordan's defensive prowess since he is widely considered one of the best defensive players to play the game. I would like to see why you think his defense was overrated or blown up by the media.

Edit to add: "Best perimeter defender to ever play the game"--Wilbon on Jordan

I am amazed someone would even argue Lebron is a better defender considering Jordan is 2nd All Time on the career steals list, and his 893 career blocks are one of the most of any guard to ever play.

Michael Jordan dominated the game of basketball on both ends of the floor unlike anything I have ever seen, and probably ever will see again. He absolutely willed his teams to excellence every single game.

Kobe is one of the closest things I have seen to him, and Lebron is a great player who will probably be considered one of the greatest one day, but there will never be another Michael Jordan.

Jordan without question is the best to ever play the game.

For all of you guys who say that rings are not the end all of the argument, you have got to be smoking crack. Name ONE other athlete who has headlined his team to 6 championships in any team sport. The only reason you guys are even arguing that Lebron is better on defense is because it's been so long since you've seen MJ play. That guy was unreal on the defensive end of the court. Not to mention there will likely never be another player as clutch as MJ.

I don't give two ***** that Lebron took Cleveland to the NBA finals. Allen Iverson took Philly there. Dwight Howard took Orlando there. Jason Kidd took the Nets there. Are they the best ever for taking ****** teams to the NBA finals? Hell, the Eastern Conference was stocked full of completely ****** teams for the past several years. Best teams in the East during Lebron's tenure - Pistons? Celtics (have only been good for what 3 years?)? Heat? (have been both good and ******) Pacers? Magic? What players at the top of the NBAs greatest lists have been on those teams? The talent is just now filtering back to the East. Lebron is a great player, but he is often overshadowed by D Wade, who is on his OWN TEAM.

Wade and Lebron will be future HOFs, and Bosh could end up there as well. You people say Jordan had 2 other HOFs on his teams, but you forget that for 3 of those he DID NOT have Dennis Rodman. Horace Grant does not equal Bosh. MJs teams simply did not lose.

Lebron has plenty of time to surpass MJ as the greatest ever, but right now he's not even an MJ type of player. If I had to compare him to someone it would be Magic. Hell, people forget that Magic once helped the Lakers win a championship playing 17'ing Center instead of PG. That guy could do it all on the court.

When he went to Chicago people wondered if it would work out. Rodman wasn't the easiest teammate to get along with.
