All of the power ratings seem to be in agreement that we should expect something like 10-2 (or slightly under that). The question becomes if 10-2 (7-2) with no B1G Title Game appearance is enough. I'd lean towards yes, but likely starting on the road.

Yes, we'll be in the CFP. Worst case scenario is 2 losses IMO. This should be enough to get us in. It'll be refreshing to possibly watch a PSU postseason game with this same team we fielded all year.

I think that's fair to expect. If you aren't going to pull an upset then you better win them all and that has been kind of the trend under JF. I honestly think plenty of PSU fans would rather beat tOSU and lose to UMD if they could.....but I can care less how you get to the playoffs, just get there. I think they do, but it's not a given.

PSU makes the playoffs. last team in.

Everybody opts out to prepare for the NIL... I mean NFL. (I'm grumpy today.)

We should all just remember how lucky we are to be allowed to have a football program.

Regarding the question: I doubt it.

No because the B1G’s “scheduling office” is dominated with Northwestern and scUM alums and they managed to “award” PSU with the most difficult schedule in the conference.

Still on vacation, but I asked a panel of experts. The results are below. (I believe you must be logged in to see the 1st four respond.)
For the record, I agree with the last expert.
Goodnight all.

I don’t know about that. We don’t play Oregon or Michigan in the regular season. A couple of the PAC 12 teams were really screwed by the schedule makers.

I expect no less. I'll resist by avoiding game threads.

Game Thread:

Minutes before kickoff: Let’s go! There’s no stopping us! This is our year! 😀

13:15 left in the 1st quarter: This team sucks. I give up. Maybe next year.

6:36 left in the 1st quarter: FIRE. FRANKLIN. o_O

2:14 left in the 2nd quarter: Bench Allar. Let’s see Beau. For f*ck’s sake.

11:18 left in the 3rd quarter: Damn, I miss Manny’s hair. 😞

3:16 left in the 3rd quarter: 😭

0:00, 4th quarter: Never in doubt! There’s no stopping us! This is our year! 😀

I agree and here is another way of looking at this:

If they finish 10-2 but are not in the CCG, they will definitely be on the bubble. I am going to assume a very good chance that all 8 CCG participants are getting in the playoff. Why? Because none of the conferences have divisions anymore which means we're not going to see a 11-1 Ohio State/Georgia/Clemson etc. playing a 7-5 type of team from the other division. Both CCG participants will probably be no worse than 10-2.

So, will the committee really penalize a 10-2 loser of a CCG and choose a 3rd place (10-2) team over that 2nd place (10-3) team instead? Do they really want to establish a precedent that it's better to finish 3rd and sit home instead of finishing 2nd and playing for the conference title (and losing)? I don't think so.

So, that takes 8 of the slots. Another one goes to the G5 Team. We are now down to everyone else competing for the final 3 slots. What about Notre Dame? If they finish 10-2, they are probably a lock. Now, we're down to 2 open slots.

Frankly, if it comes down to a choice between a 10-2 PSU team and almost ANY other 10-2 SEC team, we'll get left out.
People need to remember that E$PN is "all in" on the $EC this year. They will be hyping the "best conference in the country" 24/7 all year.

11-1 and we are a lock regardless of whether or not we play in the CCG. 10-2 and playing in the CCG probably gives us a 90%+ chance of being in the playoff.

10-2 and outside the CCG puts us on a thin bubble unless 1 or more conferences have a 9-3 participant in their CCG who loses the CCG.

I want to agree with you... but man, they could lose in Morgantown and the "worst case scenario" is then the best case.

If we lose badly in Morgantown, this team's slide into oblivion will make 1999 season look like a sunny afternoon in the park.

Since Penn State will be 0-12 this year,I seriously doubt we will be in the College Football Playoffs.

So, sit back with a beverage and enjoy the carnage to come!

I think AK is the changemaker we need; not a flashy guy who Franklin was enamored with after one year or game (like Ciarocca and Yurcich); he has an established body of work with success at all levels. I think the D will be fine but worried about depth at LB. On paper, we should out-talent pretty much everyone except OSU and maybe USC. If we can get to 10-2, I think we have a great shot at the playoff. A lot will depend on what happens in the ACC and Big XII to be honest - most projections I've seen have only the conference champion from each in the playoff. I think it's more likely that both participants in the CCG for the Power 4 get in (assuming solid ranking and no more than 2 losses going into the game) so as noted, that's 8 slots, plus the group of five best - so, three left. If ND is in the top ten, they're almost certainly in. Then probably one more each from the SEC and B1G - PSU has a relatively easy schedule but believe back to back travel to USC and Wisconsin right before hosting OSU are the key to the playoffs. The scheduling gods gifted Penn State with a break in between so hopefully that helps.

Stay healthy and I think we make it. I am however prepared for the alternative....

This is what I am expecting.

I do wonder if this gets them in the playoffs and they are immediately eliminated, how many will be happy/satisfied that they just made the playoff. I’d consider it basically about the same as last season with little “feel good” sentiment about the season.

No.

Until proven otherwise, don't believe in James Franklin. If you need Franklin to win 11 games, he'll win 10. If you need Franklin to win 10 games, he'll win 9. If you need Franklin to win 9 games, he'll win 8.

Et cetera.

Given the general consensus is PSU needs to win 10 to make the playoffs, we'll go 9-3.

If not this year, then not for a while if the majority of the ‘22 class leaves (which I believe most expect them to).

Yeah, agree with this. Last year was the year though and we couldn’t capitalize. OSU was exposed last year and I thought we would have done better flagrant a defeated/coschless Michigan team. Cupboard isn’t bare, but will look a lot different after this year.
