No.

Until proven otherwise, don't believe in James Franklin. If you need Franklin to win 11 games, he'll win 10. If you need Franklin to win 10 games, he'll win 9. If you need Franklin to win 9 games, he'll win 8.

Et cetera.

Given the general consensus is PSU needs to win 10 to make the playoffs, we'll go 9-3.
Sadly this is where I am with CJF. He is a decent man, and a good coach. But in the years we manage to beat either OSU or UM, he just seems to find a way to lose to a Pitt, a Michigan State, a Minnesota...and just not quite get there.

Game Thread:

Minutes before kickoff: Let’s go! There’s no stopping us! This is our year! 😀

13:15 left in the 1st quarter: This team sucks. I give up. Maybe next year.

6:36 left in the 1st quarter: FIRE. FRANKLIN. o_O

2:14 left in the 2nd quarter: Bench Allar. Let’s see Beau. For f*ck’s sake.

11:18 left in the 3rd quarter: Damn, I miss Manny’s hair. 😞

3:16 left in the 3rd quarter: 😭

0:00, 4th quarter: Never in doubt! There’s no stopping us! This is our year! 😀
You left out that the Lions are up by 27 in the 3rd quarter yet we are firing our coach and our QB at the same time.

So what happens to a 10-2 Penn State team that makes the title game and loses? With 3 loses do they make the Play Off?

I’m pretty down on this season. In series of one week season vacuums, we lose only OSU. With consecutive games against USC, Wisconsin, OSU and Washington, we lose at least 2, possibly all 4. I don’t WANT that. The pessimism in me is too much to control.

Add in WVU and we play 3 teams just outside top 25. Come October and throw in OSU and our schedule has the potential to be pretty brutal.

God forbid we go into Thanksgiving weekend sleepwalking in a half empty Beav vs Maryland. Lately we limp into that last game flu-ridden and uninterested. It just seems recently we’ve played a MSU team left for dead. Thankfully JF has a deep hatred for MD and gets what’s left of the team by then up for the game.

in the end, we lose at least 3 and don’t land in the top 20.

OK, call me crazy.

As Shakespeare said and Paterno has quoted to a past team. "To Be or Not to Be.."

This is a no-duh response, but it's hard to answer that question without knowing yet if the QB has made legitimate strides in progressing. If so, then it'll depend on if our receivers can get open—especially for explosive plays to ensure that we are not one-dimensional. Both are areas I'm most concerned about in regards to getting to the bare minimum of 10 wins, and both are pretty important for winning at the highest level in today's game.

We can afford one loss. Two losses only if chaos ensues and it looks like the matchups are going to involve a bunch of mid-tier programs getting trounced by the SEC. I think we get invited simply because this is the first year and they need to sell tickets to this thing; and our fan base travels. There is going to be at least one small school darling who "deserves a shot" Air Force, Fresno State, UCF, etc. You just don't want to be sitting in front of Cinderella at that 12th spot when they go to make the selections.

Still, even if you do sneak in as the 12th seed, your fate is probably playing the #2 SEC school on the road as a 5th seed. Hooray!
Even if you manage to pull off the miracle and win, you likely get clubbed next week on the road by a fully rested Georgia or OSU squad. That's basically what happens in the NFL playoffs, the rested seeds typically win in the second round.
