He’s the only possible option (if he would even consider it) that is an upgrade from what we already had.

If we would hire Sean Miller, why not Marshall…

That ship sailed a long time ago, but this is so pathetic the ship has come all the way back around.

oh…and then FIRE RAY TANNER! My God…how many hires do we have to make of a guy that “just wants to be here”? The dude can’t convince anyone to come to this school. They have to be desperate enough to want to.

This. I find it hilarious and at the same time sad that some posters here think Tanner is hamstrung by the BOT. I’ll be the first to agree our BOT is dysfunctional, if not corrupt. But no man worth his salt would hang around a situation where’s he’s publicly made to look the fool time and again. Sorry, but the BOT is not the problem in this case.

Yeah, I'm on board with the idea at this point.

Unless Ray has a real trick of his sleeve that nobody else is seeing, it's looking like Marshall is our best bet at this point.

To the best of my knowledge, he hasn't even "put in an application" for any job over the past two years....hasn't even been mentioned for any openings. His bouyout was not lump sum....it is paid out over several years....there may be a provision in it that prevents him from taking another HC gig or lose his buyout.

At a minimum, I would expect an offset clause in his buyout. And maybe he has no desire to coach anywhere right now. But I sure hope somebody is at least making the call to find out.

I would expect the same. No way to know or find out if calls were made or not.

While I do not agree with you 100%, I appreciate that you clarified your position vis a vis RT & the BOT.

It was an obvious no-brainer hire to make. Oh well. Lamont is our coach now so we have to hope he succeeds. The odds are long.

Marshall would have been the obviously smart hire. Maybe Paris is a smart hire as well. Time will tell. As the old saying goes, it is what it is.

As the old saying goes, hope and a prayer is not a plan. Everyone hopes Paris wins, and everyone will support and cheer him, but only the crazies criticize anyone skeptical of the hire at this point.

Do we know Marshall would have even taken the job, if offered? Since Marshall has issues, we apparently chose to go in a direction with no issues and a clean, youthful start.

I haven't heard him being mentioned for any HC position for the past two years....which indicates he hasn't even put his name in for any open position. It may have something to do with his seperation agreement with Wichita State as his buyout is being paid over several years.....it may provide for a sacrifice of his remaining buyout or at least a set off provision if he took another HC position.

I’m off the Marshall train for the simple fact that a hire has been made so it’s over and done with. If our goal was to make NCAATs, Marshall was the obvious hire. Maybe Paris will generate the same results. Who knows? He’s our coach so we’ll find out.

Not in agreement about hiring Marshall, but I think you are reasonable regarding the current situation in wanting the team to succeed moreso than USC hiring your preferred coach.(y)
