And for Boomers that need a reminder that aging can be a b*tch, here's Joni Mitchell at the Grammys:

Fun fact that I just learned. Free Man in Paris is about David Geffen and was written during a trip he took to Paris with Joni just after selling Asylum Records and pissing off his few clients (Eagles, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, CSN...).

some of those artists despised Geffen for years after he sold Asylum. I've heard interviews of them talking about what took place, and Geffen talking about it -- starkly different perspectives. I believe one of the documentaries about the Eagles has some clips from both sides.

I went with

Bella Harris to win,
Derrick Barry to place, and
Juliet Tierney to show

In random order, Tia Tia, Olivia Rodrigo, and Addison Rae were tough to not be in my top 3.

Yep. Geffen had promised that he would keep his roster small and devote all his attention to them. Henley made it quite clear that he was not pleased. I can understand the anger.

Who are these ladies? 🤷‍♂️
I'm only in my 40's and don't really enjoy modern pop culture. I don't follow the current music scene or the up-and-coming actors of the world. I used to enjoy watching awards shows 10+ years ago. Is it just me or does there seem to be a lack of "mature" sounding voices in music. I guess I've crossed over to being in the irrelevant demographic for modern pop culture. That's alright. There's enough amazing music, movies, and tv from the 70's 80's 90s and early 2000's to keep me satisfied.

I don't know the story. What did Geffen do wrong? Was he never permitted to ever sell the label in the eyes of the artists?

Legally, nothing wrong. It was a very exclusive group of clients and he promised that they would be his entire focus. It was more than a normal working relationship for Geffen and for the artists. He didn't tell them he was going to sell and they felt that he had betrayed them.

For me pop music has almost always been crap. I don't think the stuff you hear today is any different than New Kids on the Block, NSYNC, Back Street Boys, etc.
However, Billy Eilish has a pretty mature voice for her age and Bruno Mars (and Silk Sonic) has a pretty great sound. If you like modern Bluegrass, Billy Strings had a brief appearance (and grammy winner) last night.

There is great music still being made today, but unfortunately you have to seek it out. You're not going to hear a lot of it on the radio, or other common outlets.

I was going to make light of her look, but she is 78 and has been ill, so I will give her a pass. Not that it matters, but she is worth 100 million dollars.

Here is a younger Joni.

Here's a new group:

Since streaming radio stations is a thing, check out WXPN out of Phila. They introduced me to this group along with many other newer groups. There is good music being made these days but you have to seek it out on stations like this. Truly a unique station.

Addison Rae, Bella Harris and Derrick Barry. But in no particular order.

Special shout out to Haywood. She is from the notorious "Jablowme" family. But really no idea who most of these women are. I have still have no idea what a Doja Cat or a Dua Lipa is. And who is Juliet Tierny? She looks like a Karen dressed up so she can "Talk to the Manager"

Miss the days of Grace Slick looking hot af.

Jon Batiste was a revelation. Extremely talented singer, dancer and pianist, possibly the most versatile performer ever. Juilliard grad.

I am not sure of your time line here. The part about a trip with Joni is true, but she wrore Free Man in Paris in 1973. Geffen didnt sell/stop managing Asylum until 75 or 76 I believe

No Carrie Underwood? Her quads are rivaling Saquon’s

that is worthy of a flag, but I'll pick it up for you. (and for those confused, the pic that @Pocono Lion included was added after his initial post, and about the same time I was making my post. Plus, the pic he did add to his post is not from the Grammys.)

When you set up the poll, you get to decide who is included in it. I didn't much care for the pic I saw of Carrie at the Grammys, and her dress did nothing to accent her quads:

Pretty sure the pic I posted is from her performance, not from the red carpet.

From wiki:

Merger with Elektra Records

Asylum was taken over by Warner Communications in 1973[6] and merged with Elektra Records to become Elektra/Asylum Records. David Geffen and Elliot Roberts each received $2 million in cash and $5 million in Warner Communications stock, thereby becoming two of the company's largest shareholders. Geffen served as president and chairman of Elektra/Asylum Records until 1975, when he crossed over to film and was named vice-chairman of Warner Bros.

Geffen served as president and chairman of Elektra/Asylum Records until 1975,

my point is, he is still running the company in 75. so I am not sure what everyone would be upset about. Now when he leaves, things may have changed, but up until that point I am not sure what the problems would be.

Because they signed with Geffen for his personal attention (which he promised) and they then became property of a big corporation (Warner). You can take exception to their reaction, but my timeline and depiction is correct.
Perhaps tune in around the 50 minute mark of the Geffen documentary for a deeper dive - https://www.netflix.com/watch/70260303?trackId=255824129&tctx=0,0,NAPA@@|8625f622-ced2-4ad8-9474-dbf9a09cc561-544041824_titles/1//geffen/0/0,NAPA@@|8625f622-ced2-4ad8-9474-dbf9a09cc561-544041824_titles/1//geffen/0/0,unknown,,8625f622-ced2-4ad8-9474-dbf9a09cc561-544041824|2,titlesResults
