What is a Pope Denier?
Someone who has lost faith in Pope as a coach, and no longer believes he's the right man for the job.

-

There are many on this board who are this, as am I.

Since there is a lull time between seasons right now, a hypothetical has breached my mind.

This poll is simply about that low percentage change that Pope pulls something out of his tail end for his third season.

****IF**** Pope somehow makes a Final Four this year, as a "Pope Denier" would that change your mind to accept a 4th year of Pope, or would that not matter and you'd still want him gone after the third year?

VOTE: On the idea that whatever roster we have, Milan or not does not matter. It's simply a poll to gauge if something crazy happens and would it change your mind?

-

Now for you stupids out there who don't read and/or lack reading comprehension. I don't believe Pope will get a Final Four, nor do I believe he will be more successful this year even if we land Milan. This thread is about what would it take to change your mind as someone who is a "Pope Denier". I chose a Final Four over a title because its that right place to consider. If I chose a title, this would be an easier poll.

Caveat: Consider the results of this poll slightly off by about 10% because there are Pope Pumpers out there and we all know what they would vote for.

I am sure that Pope has ability as, I am sure he possesses positive attributes. The problem I have is that he just seems to be too goofy, an innate awkwardness , that makes it doubtful that we can expect him to successfully run a program like UK.

I voted somewhat. Pope is too unproven for it to be an absolute acceptance of him moving forward. We’ve all seen coaches make a final four that in reality were not good coaches at all and ended up fired a few years later.

Of course a final 4 would change my mind. Heck, a good season and close elite eight game would. But, my problem is I think this team is a fringe tournament team right now. Maybe win a game but that’s about it.

It depends on the final four. If it’s a Hubert Davis final four when we sucked most of the year and went on a miracle run then I’m still wanting Pope gone. If it’s a final four as a 1 or 2 seed then I’m all aboard.

Denier? Faith? Sounds religious.
I don't understand these what if scenarios other than to further say someone is a bad fan if some unlikey scenario happened. It's like me doing a poll of hot women asking if they would date me today if gold bricks suddenly started falling out of me rear in the future. I can only judge Pope by what he has done to date here and at BYU. And he hasn't sniffed a final 4. Now juxtapose that with our incoming class and it just becomes ridiculously unlikely.

Why not say if Pope got elected to the galactic council of universal commerce? Or million other things that will never happen. He's terrible, if he suddenly learns to recruit and how to win that would be the most antipope thing ever but would save his job

I voted gone even if he gets a final four, i just don't like his rosters, his play-style, the lack of entertainment, this era has just reminded me that ME as fan that its not wins and losses that make me tick

Wins and losses don’t make you tick? Purely entertainment? We would never get along.
I said it goes beyond that, for example when i was growing up those games against like morehead and whoever early in the year were highlight reel games

now it's like okay cool

under pope you don't get much excitement out of anything other than just wins and losses, like im also a big nba fan, and there's nothing there either

Buuut I don't. I selected tough call. It depends on whether a FF run would be a fluke v. reaching it following a successful season.

If wins and losses don’t make you tick. Why would you conflate the first year with the second. Although that team had some clunkers even when healthy. They were fun to watch.

I didnt conflate anything, I just am not a big fan of the DRASTIC talent dropoff, even in wins it doesnt do much for me and it stinks when in 50% of your sec games you have to ask if you even have the better roster at KENTUCKY, thats not good

Fair enough. I just think that team was plenty talented. When healthy they could beat any team in the country and that’s not hyperbole.

Yes it would 100% change my mind. Pope inherited nothing. Even if it was a fluke it would be his fluke.

Not to mention which, barring huge surprises he’s going to go into this season with a fairly meh roster. A coach who can get to the Final Four with that has skillz, no matter how goofy or ugly they might come across—and would surely get more booster buy-in = NIL dollars after that.
