The talk of a pay raise for Jans on T&L got me wondering...

And why is one paid less than the other? IMO Jans should be paid more. He's the most consistent "revenue sport" coach we have.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Lebby is at 4.5M and Jans is at 4.2M. Doesn't make sense to me. Lebby's team does bring more money to the school, but that's by default. So did Arnett's team. That's a moot point.

Without Jans, our men's teams would be pretty meh. I think Lemo is a good coach, but he's not a huge fan of portal recruiting and NIL. Because of that, we tend to be inconsistent. Football is football. And Jans has shown us his ability to win and recruit. Pay the man. Don't let him slip off to a rival because we are scared to slightly overpay a coach.

I know some people will counter with "he's yet to win the big game". I get that. But I'd rather pay for consistency. Especially in this era of MSU athletics.
Football is obviously the biggest money sport by far but winning is paramount. Jans has exceeded expectations every season and Lebby has nothing on his resume but a huge goose egg.

I’m not even joking. I would offer Jans 4 year extension at 7m each. And double basketball NIL fund. This university needs a consistent winner so bad and something we can get behind.

football will always make some money but let’s be real we longer have a shot to do anything of significance again.

With only a 12 person roster it would be easier build a winner financially and fans could actually see a ROI from basketball. Let’s make basketball program a perineal top 15 / sweet 16 team. The fans and university needs a consistent it winner for morale.

Got an idea. We hire this guy to become Jans best friend...

...and Jans will become this guy in StarkVegas:

(I'm only kidding a little. We need our coaches to love living in Starkville. For example, we need coaches who love to hunt deer and a wealthy alumnus with a 2000-acre trophy deer farm (complete with lodge, meals, drinks, etc.) to become their best friend.

If I'm spending somebody else's money, I would be up for offering him $5M a year, right now, probably with the same bonuses of his current contract to make it easy. I'd basically send over a signed contract right now, to be effective back to the beginning of this season (so basically a 3.5 year contract, although you'd have to actually structure it where he just made more for the rest of this season to avoid retroactive pay issues). Tell him we don't want it to be a distraction, but if he wants to sign it, great. If not, can negotiate at the end of the year. That would I think make him the 4th highest paid coach in the SEC (with basically everybody even or ahead of him having at least a Final Four appearance on their resume already). You could argue that's overpaying for a guy that hasn't actually won anything yet, but we need to stay relevant in a major sport, and if that's overpaying, it's not by much and is easily justified by the benefits of keeping at least one good thing going on campus while we find out how long we are going to be in football purgatory.

It's two completely different markets. Lebby is the lowest paid football coach in the SEC, except for Chris Lea at Vandy and that is probably about to change.

There are only 4 SEC basketball coaches who make more than Lebby, and only Calipari makes significantly more than Lebby.

Jans is the 10th highest paid SEC basketball coach, but it wouldn't even take $1 MM per year to move him into the top 5.

All that said, Lebby hasn't even earned his 15th place salary, while we should try to keep Jans happy. Has he earned one of the Top 5 salaries in the conference? Probably not....but would we offer him a $900K raise and tell him $1MM is just too much? I hope not.
Give him an additional 1mm in April if we make the Sweet 16 or better

Agree 100%
Should be spending more NIL on BB and less on FB but have veteran smart FB coaches who can evaluate portal talent
