This is what we’re up against.

In the near future, this amount might not even fully fund one year of the football team's payroll.

I guess some people favor education over a game :(

The money is great, but does Schuy King really believe the stuff about the "value" and "prestige" of a name attached to a school? Yeah, he's just fool enough to.

It’s an embarrassment of riches for Penn State. Or just an embarrassment.

😞

It's nice dough. If you want to put it into context, there have been much larger gifts, though not to PSU iirc, that have been made anonymously. So when is Johns Hopkins being renamed the Michael R. Bloomberg University?
No offense to the donors, but I oppose naming schools, buildings, or anything else, for individuals unless they contributed something to society other than money. Cure some disease, invent something meaningful, set foot on the moon, win the Medal of Honor.... money is too easy, and most people who give still have lots left. If they want to donate, great, but do it anonymously. Draw attention to the University (by making it better) rather than yourself.

Penn State should have sought more money for naming rights to the graduate school. Nvidia might have paid a lot more. Or Sheetz.

Fairgambit Worldwide Enterprises offered the prestige of our name in return for 22 million but they turned us down. I agreed to accept 25 million, and then 30 million, but they turned those down too. This is what I'm up against!

That's a weird way to admit you're jealous you don't have $20M to donate. But do regale us with tales of how, if you did have $20M to donate, you wouldn't, because PSU totally sucks. This message is brought to you by the Moogy Center for No One Gives a Spit, Just Go Beat a Neighbor At Darts, Diefy JoePa and Think That's Meaningful.

Jealousy has nothing to do with this. After 50 years of practicing law I have more money than I will ever need and, most likely, far more than you would imagine. I donated to Penn State for over 40 years but have given nothing in the last 15. I now give generously to other causes I deem more worthy. I have never asked for approbation or publicity, and never accepted it, even when offered. I will add that Penn State doesn't suck. The people that run her do. What is meaningful is making a difference in this world. I will go to my grave believing that I have. That is enough for me. I don't need my name on anything but my tombstone.

As a former practicing attorney who moved on to a more lucrative career path, with a wife who is still a practicing attorney and a managing partner of her firm, I'm quite sure I can imagine what you've accumulated as an attorney. Yes, we know how much you don't care ... you spend an inordinate amount of time and energy repeatedly telling us how much you don't care.

Since we have an absolute creepy creepster of a human being on this board, who is a habitual failed doxxer, I can't divulge much information, but I will say I'm quite familiar with charitable giving, both of the anonymous and the eponymous varietals. Both are perfectly fine and I don't feel the need to stand in judgment of either option. Sometimes you just want to give, and other times you want to proudly attach your name to something ... for a variety of reasons.

If you no longer care about X, move on ... if you now care about Y, promote Y and stop crying about X. Otherwise, you just seem petty and bitter ... and the more you tell people you don't care, you're telling them you really care, just in an immature way.

I will take your thoughtful, and well written, post, under advisement. It is not often that I have been remonstrated by a former member of the bar. Perhaps you will see a whole new me in the days ahead.

You feel better now, lil guy? Did you get it all out?

You want to jump on the Gambit train of shaming people for the way they choose to give copious amounts of money for charitable endeavors?

Correction: not a former member. Just an inactive one.
