Watching the Inside the Gamecocks show, and they brought up an interesting point that I hadn't thought too much about. This is a big time QB matchup. Rattler was a Heisman candidate at one point and is considered a potential first rounder. Even though overall he had didn't have a great year, he showed that potential at times late in the year. Drake May is looking like a top 10 pick. We've certainly seen our share of opponents' big time QB prospects. But when is the last time we've seen a QB MATCHUP of this magnitude? CS14 was a Gamecock great, but he was never considered a big time QB prospect. Hoping Ratt steps up and reminds everyone that he's STILL one of the top QB prospects in the country.

I don't think we've ever had a quarterback who even threatened to become a high draft pick.

Rattler had one great game and one good game last season, the rest were pretty "meh". The great game came against what was possibly the worst pass defense in the SEC. That said, the pros base a lot of their draft decisions on measurables and potential when it comes to qbs (AR15 from UF is a prime example) so Rattler may be a first round pick unless he has a terrible season.

We’ll grab 3 interceptions so no problem.

Wrong. This will be Maye's third year. He played in 2021 and 2022 and was elgible to go in the draft this past year. Maye be listed as a sophomore but he is in his 3rd year.
Watching the acc media day, Don't judge me it was on where I was at, and it said 2nd year qb. That's all I was going on.

I looked at his stats, that first year had 10 passing attempts.

So I'm going to assume it was a redshirt year, and that is why some people might call this his second year.

If that's the case, these same folks can't consider 2019 a year for Rattler. Only 11 passes. They can't have it both ways. They are saying this is Rattler's 5th year and Maye's 2nd.

That’s how the ASheShe manipulates people into believing it’s good. Maye appears more of a wow factor if u believe this is only his 2nd year 🤣

This will be great publicity for our program having 2 talented QBs going against each other on Game Day and on national TV. I'm glad we are underdogs because if we win it will gain even more attention. It could be another game like the Tennessee and Clemson games that can be used as proof of our progress.

I would put UNCs defense and their secondary on the same level as Tennessee's. This will be Rattlers big chance to have a splash opener. Loggains must be ready to offset a pass rush will play action, screens and end arounds. We will find out quickly what type of OC Loggains is. I like the matchup.

Agree on the pass rush needing a diversion with the type plays you mentioned. I see opposing defenses using all out pressure to stop our (Rattler's) passing game as the ticket to beating us.

I think he at least needs to have at least a decent season. I read an article a couple weeks ago that cited a few unnamed scouts who are still impressed with Rattler's measurables and feel he has an elite arm. If he turns a season that looks like his first 9 games last year, though, he's probably a 3rd round or later pick.

The scouts cited Rattler's total lack of support and didn't seem totally turned by his poor numbers though. They referenced our anemic run game and porous OL. The article mentioned the percent of snaps on which Rattler was pressured...I can't remember the number, but it was alarmingly high. So they looked beyond his numbers at the overall situation.
