And this is going to hurt some feelings but baseball doesn’t have an ROI so therefore if you are going to give to baseball might as well just burn that money.
What about an initiative credit card? Adds .25 to 1 cents per dollar to purchases and that goes to NIL and counts toward your status. I feel like that’s something I’d be more likely to sign up for and end up paying way more for than a monthly contribution. Is anyone doing that?$826.31. The $0.31 is my “Oby’s round-up” contribution
The problem of course is that if it were successful everyone would replicate and there’d be no advantageWhat about an initiative credit card? We are talking with a company on that now. Both pre-paid debit and credit cards. What about an initiative credit card? I would be happy to talk through any of it with State guys - just don't want to do it on a message board. If you DM me, I will be happy to visit and try to answer as much as I can.NIL and transfer portal are out of control. However, there is one thing for me that is well within my control. Until more stability and sense is established, I choose to spend my money elsewhere. IF safeguards are in place when NIL money is promised to a recruit then tell me what they are. Let me know at least a little about what is going on. It seems we are being asked to give $ to something on pure, blind faith. I do not want to know how much a young man is paid but do not understand the lock down secrecy.
They really don’t want answers. They’re just looking for excuses. Bottom line is, as bad as the NIL/portal world is and as many flaws as it has, it is the world we live in now. Only question is will we compete or will we quit. Our neighbors have chosen to compete.I would be happy to talk through any of it with State guys - just don't want to do it on a message board. Because as an athletic department we lose money on baseball. It’s a glorified club sport and therefore our investment in MSU athletics from here on should be football and basketball. It’s why I said investing in baseball is the equivalent of burning money. It might hurt some feelings but it’s true. We should be de-emphasizing baseball and putting all financial resources into football and basketball. The landscape of college athletics has changed dramatically and we need to change our ways of thinking. How exactly does any of this have a ROI and how does baseball differ in that?
No part of any of this is an actual investment. Just a different way of burning leisure cash.
Investing is a curious word to throw around college athletics. But if we're going to do it, I'd guess that our baseball program might contribute more to a student's choice to come here than the football or basketball program. Especially if we 'invest' in football/basketball and continue to be in our current place because other schools 'invest' more.Because as an athletic department we lose money on baseball. In everything....while the world passes us by. A low-down, damned dirty shame. They really don’t want answers. They’re just looking for excuses. I’m sure the people who should know do know. Why wouldn't we want to know? It's relevant information. But I will couch that with this:
If we don't know how we stack up against our peers, I would agree that it's useless information. Other than just to piss off more fans that hate NIL, when they see how much it is.
But without knowing fact about our donations vs. other SEC teams, it's hard to make good decisions about how to allocate that money. It just turns into a "more more more" situation, which isn't smart or sustainable. I don't know if ADs have this info or not, since the collectives are private.
I would also be curious to see if NIL donations follow the same trends as other athletic donations, as far as how we compare, etc.
Football $2 to $2.5How much are we paying our roster currently? I have no idea what the number is but curious what everyone's thoughts are.
this has absolutely nothing to do with the topic but about 20 years ago i went into the Walgreens on N State street in Jackson when the cops were escorting a young scholar from the pharmacy area. apparently he had stolen a prescription pad and had written a script for "one pound of mophine" . everyone back in the pharmacy were laughing their a--es off.
