Does it make more sense? Most non-revenue sports have higher attendance with an extra 60-80k people in town.

That said, facility availability might be an issue for exactly that reason.
You're not wrong at all, but beyond facility availability, parking would almost surely be an issue, as well. Not one that couldn't be overcome, of course.

There is the issue of some Penn State fans probably already having plans for the football bye week. But, we know that the wrestling crowds are big enough that I have a hard time they'll have trouble selling tickets on the new date.

Parking issues at PSU?

Jeez, next you'll tell me the bars will have cover charges on football weekends.

Varner is like 30lbs heavier than him, isn’t he?

He wasn’t exactly small for 97kg back in the day.

Including Downey isn't a good idea. He won't be in shape and will look silly at about a minute in and this is meant to promote the sport as professional viewing. Allowing an out of shape clown to participate for a small paycheck doesn't lend a sense of credibility to the event.

I admire the attempt to make this a thing, and I think it could possibly work if wrestling events resemble MMA events to the point where MMA fans start to peek in. Because wrestling fans alone just won't cut it, and I say that as a media member who can walk into the NYAC to see similarly competitive matches at the Bill Farrell, where it's hardly packed and there isn't even seating.

Another idea: find and involve Georgio Poullas, the former Ohio state champ / Cleveland State wrestler who has an extremely viral "Take me down Win $1000" video series, and find him an opponent. He's obviously wrestling guys many tiers below him in those videos, but he has genuine pedigree and non-wrestling fans familiar with his videos might watch to see if can go with a guy they've never heard of who is billed as better than him. Poullas wrestled 152 in HS I think, but looks to be up near 180 in these videos.

Maybe they meant Varner's Cauliflower Ear vs. Downey. That might be a fair fight, maybe.

Any truth to the rumor that they're also trying to get Nick Lee to wrestle Mr. Methane on the same card?

I tend to agree but if they make this a world championships lite I don’t think it’ll work. We have story lines in this sport and some heels and need to lean into some of that. Dylan Palacio should honestly be involved even though I find him insufferable.

I'm friends with someone who was a room guy at Nebraska; wrestled live w/ Burroughs, Green, etc. He's said multiple times the only times he ever felt truly lost on a mat; to the point that he felt like didn't even know how to wrestle was the first minute to 90 seconds against Downey when Downey was w/ Nebraska. . . then Downey would gas out and be useless but my buddy still marvels at the raw ability of Downey
